What we’ve been up to at OSHC!
We have had so much fun over the past two weeks as we’ve continued engaging with our after-school clubs! Within these clubs our weekly goals of focus have centred around building an awareness of our community responsibilities. Check out some of the awesome things we’ve been up to below!
Sustainability Club
The children had an awesome time becoming the Habitat Heroes for St James! Developing our awareness of the impacts of rubbish on our local environment, the children walked around the campus at St James and Star of the Sea collecting rubbish to recycle. Staff were amazed by our Habitat Heroes and we cannot wait to embed this into our program each fortnight!

Super Science Stars Club
Back by popular demand, the students loved exploring our science focus “reaction”. The children have really enjoyed learning about what happens when you mix lemons, food dye, dishwashing soap and baking soda…lots of fizzing reactions! We also made some amazing rainclouds in a jar, another great way of engaging students in the concept of chemical reactions and making a prediction.

Family Tree
Recently at OSHC, we’ve been working on the creation of our OSHClub family tree. Charlie in Grade 1 has helped to paint the sign for this area and has been the first family to join our tree. We hope to use this space as an area to celebrate the different cultures and families that make up the OSHC community at St James.
If you currently attend OSHC, we would greatly appreciate if you could send through a family photo so that we can build our tree!
Staffing updates!
We are so excited to welcome back our Coordinator Laura after she has completed her latest teaching round. Laura had a fabulous time on placement and has really enjoyed continuing to develop her skills as a soon-to-be teacher! She is so excited to be back and cannot wait to see your beautiful faces soon.
We would also like to welcome to the team Samara and Jocelyn as our support educators for the program. Samara and Jocelyn are both currently completing their Bachelor of Education (Primary) and absolutely love working with children. They are passionate about developing relationships with parents and the wider community to support each child’s development. Samara will be supporting the team on Monday-Wednesday afternoons and Jocelyn will be supporting on Thursday-Friday afternoons. If you see them in the playground, please feel free to come up for a chat, they would love to meet you all!

Upcoming Winter Holiday Program at
St Joseph's Primary School in Elsternwick
As St James OSHClub does not run a program here, our closest nearby program is located at St Joseph's. Over the school holiday period, I work alongside the amazing service coordinator, Siobhan to provide an excellent program, jammed packed with lots of super-fun activities that will keep your children engaged and happy these school holidays! Siobhan and I are particularly excited for our trip to Bounce and the Zoo! Check out the service program and download the attachment for more information.
