Continuing with Learning!

by Helen Freeman, Principal

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience and support as we find ourselves in lockdown again. From the feedback I have received students are enjoying the teachers being live with them in their class taking each lesson. As you are experiencing teachers are not online for the entire session and have set up their own classroom expectations. As the lockdown has been extended, I would like to reiterate to you that we understand that students may not always be able to attend a session due to the many other demands on families during this time. This is ok, please do not put any extra pressure on yourself or the family, we are all doing the best we can. Please if you have any questions or need any assistance regarding the remote and flexible learning, do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or the Office.

It was wonderful seeing so many parents at the Aerobics Display night. After many weeks of intense training the students were bubbling with excited as they dressed in their aerobics outfits and performed their routines. The highlight for me was the strong sense of teamwork that each team displayed. Special mention to all the students who performed for their first time, only taking up aerobics this year, they were amazing! The lockdown has meant that the upcoming competition has been postponed to late July, which gives our teams more training time.

Congratulations to all the students who attended the District Cross Country event a fortnight ago. It is fantastic to see our students living our school values out in the wider community and focusing on their personal best. Amazingly we have Braedyn, Charley, Advika, Ben, Mitchell, Alexa, Zoe, Minuki, Anastasia, Kate, Blaine, Avneet, Oneli, Tom, Isha, Willow, and Abbie who will attend the Division Cross Country. We wish all these students well for the event.

To celebrate ‘Reconciliation Week’ Mrs Mann worked with a group of our Year 6 students - Luvina, Han, Nicole, Tarunika, Isha, Abbie, Sithmi, Eunseo, Deeksha, and Melissa, to design and produce a piece of artwork, which they called "Dreamtimes from the Heart", that was then displayed at the Mount Waverley Community Centre.

As previously mentioned, we have Andrea Hillbrick working with teachers and students on the process of writing. I am hoping that you all have seen a fabulous ‘serviette book’ completed by your child which was sent home last Thursday.  This was an activity completed by all students from Foundation to Year 6. The quality of the writing was fabulous. The next whole school task will have all students producing a piece of writing that will form part of a ‘Writing Gallery’. This is planned for later in Term 3 and will be open to families to attend.

Finally, as we move in to the extend lockdown period, we do appreciate the challenges being faced by everyone, but it is heart-warming to know that we are all part of such a resilient, caring school community.  Thank you for your wonderful support.
