Year 9 News…

This will be my last newsletter article for the current Year 9 cohort and young group of students as I hand the students over to Mr Peter Vollugi next year who will take them through to Year 12 as the graduating class of 2023. Unbelievable how the years and time flies by especially this year when we have had so much disruption and change in our daily lives.

Last week I had the pleasure of interviewing twenty - eight Year 9 students for the Junior Prefect 2021 positions. Both Mr Vollugi and I were incredibly overwhelmed with the talent, maturity and courage each student took to firstly apply and then attend an interview. During the interviews we both learnt about how fortunate we are to have such a wonderful group of students in Year 9. Each student went on to explain what they could offer the College in moving the school forward and supporting the incoming students across the many year levels. I look forward to witnessing each of the students next year in their positions and those who have unfortunately missed out – I look forward to seeing each of them continue to do well and grow even further for potential leadership opportunities in the future years at St Mary’s.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students for applying and recognise the successful applicants:

Congratulations to our Junior Prefects for 2021!

Finally, we are well and truly in assessment mode with it concluding next week with our Year 9 Pastoral Day at Trinity Beach. Next Wednesday students will be expected to arrive at school in their sports uniform for the Year 9 Mass held in the Nazareth Pavilion recognizing the end of Junior School at St Mary’s and the transition into senior. At the conclusion of the Mass students will be transported by bus to Trinity Beach or lunch and activities. Could I please ask that you ensure the correct permission forms have been completed for your child to attend the day and participate in water activities within the stinger enclosure. Should your child be unable to attend please indicate this on the form and send through an email to me with an explanation so this can be added to the absentee list explaining the absence.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the families of students in Year 9 at St Mary’s for your continued support over the past two years in the education of your child as well as the pastoral development. I look forward to continuing to see the 2023 graduates of St Mary’s grow and flourish to become lifelong learners for the real-world demonstrating faith, hope and love.

God bless
