SMCC RUN SQUAD
This term, the St Mary’s Run Squad will be participating in a “Dollar for Kilometre” fundraiser, to raise awareness and vital funds for the Indigenous Marathon Project. Our very generous Family Connect will be supporting our runners financially as we aim to collectively run 1000km to raise $1000 dollars for the IMP. As at the end of Week 5, we have covered 839km!
The Indigenous Marathon Project selects a group of 12 Indigenous Australians (six women and six men) to train for the New York City Marathon. These athletes are heralded as champions and role models to celebrate Indigenous resilience and achievement, and to inspire Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to live an active, healthy lifestyle and decrease the instance of preventable disease.
We were fortunate to have Brendan Peeters, IMP graduate 2014, join us for a Run Squad session in Week 4 and share his valuable insight into the great work that IMP do, and his experience running the NYC Marathon.
Members of the wider St Mary's community are welcome to donate to the SMCC Run Squad IMP fundraiser by contacting our office on 4044 4200.
