BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED

We celebrated NAIDOC week in Physical Education lessons by understanding Yulunga.

Yulunga: Traditional Indigenous Games is a selection of games and activities from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies all around Australia. It provides an opportunity to learn about, appreciate and experience aspects of Indigenous culture.

We played the game Tarnambai. We have learnt that many of the Yulunga games like Tarnambai involve the use of the Fundamental Movement Skills such as running and overarm throwing which underpin the learning of more complicated sport and movement skills common to the community. Students who participate in games involving fundamental motor skills are generally more inclined to participate in a range of sports and movement activities and maintain involvement during childhood and adolescence.
