Secondary Department News

YEAR 7/8

This term we have been learning about what living things are and what they need in order to grow and survive. To observe the changes in a plant’s life cycle, we planted some lettuce, tomatoes and sun flower seeds into our class garden. We learned that plants need soil, sun and water to survive. We water the plants in our class garden every day.

YEAR 9

This week the Year 9’s ran a pop-up shop for their enterprise businesses.

Pottery Bay sold hand made pottery with potted plants.

The Holly Jolly Christmas Shop sold hand made gnomes and Christmas ornaments.

The students used their teamwork skills to work together and run the businesses. They communicated with their customers and we’re great at using their math skills to make change. The store was a success, we sold out of almost all stock!

Great work Year 9’s :)

YEAR 10

This Term 4, we Year 10 students, are focusing to create our own resumes/curricula vitae and sample/template cover letters as well. Another name for a cover letter is a letter of application. As we are familiar with many formal letters, it was easy for us to create cover letters.

We must alter our sample cover letters for each application we make.

We have started to undertake our Career Action Plan (CAP).

While we do this, we further develop our employability skills such as communication skills- actually written communication and technology skills.

Thank you, Mr Lukas, for supporting us to save our documents in OneDrive.

Now most of us can confidently use Microsoft Word. It means typing using both of our hands, copying and pasting any document, saving the document on desktop or OneDrive. We can also copy or send any document from and to a USB.  We are able to change the font sizes, make text bold or change it into Italic. We are able to use spellcheck as well.

We are prepared and now many steps closer to get our desired jobs down on paper and mentally ready and eager to get the actual jobs. We hope we will further pass many steps in coming years at Jackson school.
