Careers & Pathways

VCE

During the lockdown period in Term Three, the Careers and Pathways Team were extremely busy supporting Year 12 students registering and completing their individual VTAC applications as well as providing additional support & assistance with writing their SEAS and Scholarship applications. Working remotely proved challenging; however, Coburg High School students, parents and families can be congratulated for the countless Google Meets and phone conversations that were held in order to support pathway plans, career advice and subject selection.

Due to us all working remotely we learnt to love and navigate our way around new digital platforms including Google Meets, Webex, Zoom etc -  We learnt how to use and successfully access Google Meets to provide support for the Year 12 students and are very proud that we were able to reach out to as many students as were required. We all had to adjust to working in isolation and our focus was to remain positive and committed to providing unconditional support to the Year 12 cohort during this challenging time.

I was able to continue to offer Career and Pathway advice throughout the holidays which would not have been possible without  Rex (the poodle pet therapy dog) who actually kept me sane (as did Giulia thankfully) and provided me with unconditional love and company.

VCAL & Pathways

During the remote period we were also supporting Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students with navigating pathways and alternative course options such as VCAL programs for 2021 such as NCAT and Melbourne Polytechnic to ensure consistent and comprehensive support.

A number of students and parents and families attended Virtual Information Sessions at NCAT and other virtual opportunities. Year 12 students also attended Virtual online University Open Days to assist with making informed course and career decisions!

In Term Four, we have also continued to provide additional support to the Coburg High School students about their career decisions, and to offer career advice, as well as pathway support to a number of Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 and 12 students. This has included face to face meetings with VCE students and Google Meets with Year 9 and 10 students since returning to onsite.  We will continue to be busy in Term Four also so please be kind and patient.  I am so proud to be part of the Coburg High School community!!

Morrisby Assessment

In Term Two the majority of Year 9 students were able to complete their Morrisby Assessment at school on site prior to the first lockdown so this was a great bonus!

The Morrisby Assessment is essentially a career diagnostic tool designed to assist students with identifying their strengths and ambitions and to provide an overview of career suggestions, comprehensive career and course information, requirements and potential pathway routes to consider. Morrisby has assisted students and families with subject selection and making practical considerations and decisions in regards to their future career aspirations.

Due to further lockdowns in Melbourne, students were also offered to complete this assessment from home. The Morrisby At Home package was offered to those who missed out on completing it at school in Term 2 2020.

In Term 4 2020 the Year 9 students will now be offered individual interviews with career consultants  online to discuss and review their Morrisby results. These interviews have also been confirmed to occur in November 2020 on site at school so this is very exciting news! Students and families will also have access to their own Morrisby hardcopy booklets at this time.

A big THANK You to Katie Radak the Year 9 Coordinator, as well as Belinda Parini and the Year 9 team who were instrumental in promoting and supporting this opportunity for the Year 9 cohort in 2020.
