Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

Term 4 Reminders

  • Familiarise yourself with our SWPBS Matrix to continue our positive behaviours to enhance everyone’s experience and ensure we get the most out of all opportunities.
  • Please remember your hats and ensure you have it with you at all times during Term 4 so it is available when you are open spaces.
  • Bring your water bottle
  • Please remember your masks.

Mobile Phones and Communication

As mobile phone use is not permitted during class times, could you please ensure that contact between students and parents is through the Front Office, to ensure we can support this and assist the best way we can. It can be challenging when we do not have the information, or are unable to follow our processes and guidelines. This will enable the office to follow up appropriately and ensure we are supporting our students as required.

Girl Power Program

In our Girl Power program over the past weeks, we have reviewed things that worry us, the time we spend on our worries and how we respond to them. We also looked at the circles of concern and influence.

In short, we can spend a lot of time and energy consumed by things that are out of our control. This can cause us to have a large circle of concern, and a small circle of influence/control. However when we shift our focus and actions to things that we have control over, we can inadvertently influence others and situations within our circle of concern.

Proactive - Spending most of our time and energy in the Circle of Influence, attempting to set goals on those things which we have impact on.

Reactive - Spending most of our time and energy in our Circle of Concern, but outside of the Circle of Influence. This focuses on long-term goals and "wishes" that we may or may not have any control over at all, like celebrity's lives, what other people think of you, and the opinions of others in general (politics, anyone?).

Cybersafety and Cyberbullying (information from eSafety Commissioner - esafety.gov.au)

Talk about cyberbullying before it happens and discuss strategies that you are both comfortable with, so they know what to expect if they do report concerns to you.

Encourage them to use privacy settings on social networking sites and restrict online information to viewing by friends only, and to be careful about who they accept as friends.

Recommend that they avoid responding to negative messages and actively block and report abusive people to social media services or website administrators. Encourage them to tell you, or another trusted adult, about such incidents and to take screenshots of negative messages for reporting. Hold the saved messages for them so they don’t have to view them again.

Make sure they are aware of the advice about cyberbullying particularly targeted at young people.
