VCAL - Trees planted at Victoria Park

The VCAL cohort walked to Victoria Park boat ramp on Tuesday 27th October 2020  and planted 384 new trees for the new bridge project. The VCAL team split into small groups then again into groups of two or three. We met Jacqui who is a worker for Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Lead. We walked through the Bridge Project and met Steve Eeles, who is the Environmental Manager.

Steve walked us through the bush and showed us the trees we will be planting and some safety measures we need to take. In small groups, Steve showed us each of the plot sights and we all worked together in digging holes, planting and putting barriers around the trees. It was an amazing experience to see the VCAL team working together helping the community.  The reason behind planting the trees was due to the Bridge Project having to cut down a lot of trees to build the new bridge so this meant the wildlife that call the scenic drive home didn't have as many homes so we planted new trees so they can grow and the wildlife can build new homes.

My group planted approximately 144 new trees in six different plots. With Steve and Mrs Phillips as our leaders, we all contributed our bit to help our community. The purpose behind this was to work together and build personal development skills. It will be great going back for a walk down the Scenic Drive in 15 years’ time knowing that we all contributed and worked together to help the community with planting trees.
