Visual Arts
What another crazy term it has been. Teachers have been busy creating online units, providing feedback via Google Meets and MAZCOM and keeping our students engaged in our Visual Arts content.
I would like to formally welcome Ms Nicole Wong who has taken over from Mr John McCabe while he is on leave for term 3 and 4. Nicole is a graduate teacher who has very in depth industry skills and knowledge acquired at Lego in Singapore and other school placements. She has been a very valuable asset to the department and has really inspired our Year 7 and 8 art boys, particularly during remote learning. We are excited to see Mr McCabe return in 2021 and I know his students will be too!
Year 9 Digital Arts have been busy using artists as inspiration to create some very unique projects. We have looked at David Hockney and his Still Life, Takashi Murakami’s Illustrations, Pete Cromer Australian Animal series as well as complete a photographic zine based on students experience during COVID 19. We would welcome all members of the community to also visit the virtual gallery and LIKE the students artwork. This is something we as a department are very excited about and you will be seeing more of this next year! https://www.artsteps.com/view/5f486f302b2c222f76e6b1a2
Year 10 VCD students have been busy working on their architecture designs creating a two story townhouse in a suburb of their choice. They have developed manual drawing abilities such a rendering two point perspective illustrations, creating elevations and designing floor plans. They have been shown digital methods such as Adobe Illustrator and are now working on their final presentation for this unit; a digital A4 promotional flyer.
The year 11 Studio Arts class have been working on their self-directed folios this semester. After deciding upon a theme and conducting research into a variety of artists and their particular art practices and studio processes, the boys undertook a series of trials in their visual diaries. Taking home the necessary materials for these trials prior to remote learning enabled the boys to explore a variety of media and develop skills and techniques with each one. The boys now return to school ready to embark on their final artworks.
Year 12 VCD and Studio Arts students came in during the holiday break in order to complete their final presentations for their SAT folios. They were very keen to get back into the swing of things and be surrounded by their peers (with social distancing in place). Students were able to use laser cutters, 3D printers and traditional materials they didn’t necessarily have at home. With the upcoming exams Ms Campos and Mr Emmett wish the students all the very best. It has been an absolute pleasure watching them grow and develop their skillsets.
