Principal's Post

Dear Parents,

We are delighted to have the full complement of students returning to on-campus classes next week. Health protocols such as mask wearing and hygiene practices such as the regular washing of hands will continue and various restrictions will still be in place. Activities that have navigated the restrictions and have adopted a modified format have included Chess, Public Speaking and Debating.

With Junior ACC Debating and Public Speaking scheduled for November and DAV Debates at some year levels still incomplete, there have been a series of successes to-date that should be acknowledged.

Mateo Acosta Fernandez has won a coveted ‘Swannie Award’ which is awarded to the best speaker in their grade and region. Mateo also competed in the final of the PESA Competition.

The Year 10, 11 and 12 teams all progressed undefeated through to finals this year. The Years 11 and 12 successfully reached the Octo Finals and the Year 10s reached the Quarter Finals (last eight teams in the state).

The two Year 8 teams remain undefeated with one debate to go this season and the Year 7s are providing selection headaches as they challenge each other to represent the Year 7 Debating and Public Speaking Team.

The Year 7 – 9 students competed in the Chess Middle Years State Finals and won a Bronze Medal behind Balwyn North and St Michael’s Grammar. The following students won medals in the competition:- Anderson Gong (Year 8), Christopher Hermawan (Year 9), Jackie Li (Year 8), Chris Boey (Year 7), Bradley Susanto (Year 7), Ryan Peiris (Year 8) and Cameron Boey (Year 9).

The Year 7 – 12 students competed in the Chess Open State Finals and won a Gold Medal ahead of De La Salle and St Michaels Grammar.  The following students won medals in the competition:- Christopher Hermawan (Year 9), Jackie Li (Year 8), Duleesha Gunaratne (Yr 10), Kevin Tran (Yr 10) and Elis Ng (Yr 11).  Special congratulations to Jackie Li for winning the individual overall gold medal with 8.5 wins out of 9 games. Congratulations to all in both teams for a stunning effort, competing at highest level of competition.

The Year 8s have been doing some amazing artwork while in Remote Learning. Their work is on display in their Virtual Gallery. Please access the attached link to view their creations. The Year 8s completed two projects in Term 3 – the tessellations design challenge and scribble-line portraits. The empty spaces will be updated with Term 4 works in due course. Due to the number of masterpieces on display it could take some time to upload.

The uniform shop suppliers, Klad Uniforms has established a click & collect facility for parents. At this stage students can collect uniform items at lunchtimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hopefully access to the uniform shop will be available to parents as well in the near future. Unfortunately the second hand uniform shop is not able to provide a service at the moment. Please check out the uniform shop by accessing the link below.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to World Teachers' Day on Friday October 30. The day is designed to acknowledge all in the business of education and express gratitude to those involved in the formation of our young people. Teachers and Education Support Staff (along with parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role that educators play in the lives of children and students, their families and communities. Please encourage your son to take the time to show his gratitude to those educators in his life.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Tony Coghlan
