Book Week

 Book Week 

Students celebrated Book Week with a dress up day and activities relating to short listed books from the Children’s Book Council of Australia and 2020 theme ‘Curious Creatures Wild Minds.’

 

Preps: In line with their current Unit of Inquiry re sea life, the Preps enjoyed the book ‘Louie and Snippy Save the Sea’ by G. Cowan. They coloured in sea pictures showing environmental problems.

 

Year One: Children tuned into theme with ‘The Gruffalo’ by J. Donaldson, made spinners after enjoying ‘Fly’ by J. Mc Geachin and finger puppets after ‘Bat vs Poss’ by A.Moses. They also did a reflection on Book Week.

 

 

Year Two: Tuning into theme, the children made a curious creature, colourful parachutes after reading ‘Nop’ by C. Magerl and lovely house pictures of their favourite things inspired by ‘Tilly’ by A. Walker.

 

 

Year Three: After listening to ‘Hello Lighthouse’ by S. Blackall students did alovely haiku poetry and a retell of story.

Year Four: Had class discussions re what makes literature moving and exciting and how authors make and hold readers interest. Following texts ‘When Billy was a dog’ by K. Murray and ‘I NEED a parrot’ by C. McKimmie students wrote a persuasive text trying to convince their parents what pet they wanted! Year 4 classes enjoyed the chapter book ‘The Little Wave’ by P. Harry which led to activities re understanding self & others - listing character traits & what we have in common, making own Icons and playing guessing games with them.

Year Five: Did digital activities using one note after reading examples from the non fiction text ‘The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Ugly Animals’ by S. Bayly. Students selected an animal and listed ugly features and fun facts in similar format to book.

 

Year Six: Discussed how different characters evolve after studying ‘Hello Lighthouse’ by S. Blackall. They illustrated beautiful lighthouses, encompassing examples of special words from story eg feelings, actions... Also read ‘Nop’ by C. Magerl and recorded creative language from text eg similes, metaphors...
