Principal's Report

World Teachers Day

Friday 30 October 2020 is World Teachers Day.

This is a day for us to celebrate our wonderful teachers.

I would like to sincerely acknowledge the outstanding commitment, dedication and compassion of our teachers throughout the many phases of 2020. This year, despite major challenges, our teachers have made sure education has continued for our students and have reinforced the significant role our teachers play in the lives of our students, their families and the community.

Our Education School Support team provided homemade scones with jam and cream for our teachers for a special morning tea.  The teachers enjoyed their special treat in their Year Level hubs.

As a whole staff we are still meeting online totally.  We have not met as a team in person since March. With restrictions being lifted from 11.59pm Tuesday we are hopeful that we can join as one by Christmas.

School Photographs

School Photographs will be taken of all classes this week.  This has been made possible by two staff members, Tanya Gibbon and Claire Badley, both of whom are excellent photographers. It is fortunate that these ladies have agreed to share their skills in this area.

We are also extremely thrilled to have Kerri Valkova, parent of Lexi in Year 6, offer her skills to prepare the graphics for the photographs.  Kerri has donated both her time and her expertise as a way of demonstrating her appreciation of what the staff have done throughout this surreal year.

There will be no cost for School Photographs this year. The photographs will be emailed to all families enabling them to print in the size they prefer. Details will be sent home when the photos are ready for distribution.

We Are So Proud Of Our Year 3 Students

The Year 3 students have continued to embrace new technologies to enhance and share their learning. This week they shared their PYP action piece, a digital “I Speak the Animals” factual narrative picture story book about an endangered species. With the use of the Flipgrid website, they were able to upload their illustrations and record themselves reading the story.

Junior students were able to access these wonderful stories on iPads by scanning a QR code on a poster advertising the book.

Well done to our amazing young students and their enthusiasm for trying new things. Please see the Year 3 page which showcases their hard work.

Well Done Everyone

We have been able to reduce the staggered arrival and dismissal from 3 to 2 time slots this week which has enabled us to commence the Specialist lessons at 9.10 instead of 9.30. We would sincerely like to thank all parents for supporting these revised start and finish times.

Your children are a credit to you as they walk in, bags on backs and heading directly to their classroom. We are reducing the number of staff on the entrance points as a way of demonstrating to our students that they know what to do and where to move totally independently.

Bike Shed Support

We are extremely grateful to the staff employed in our OSHC Program for managing the bike shed in the morning and the afternoon. As parents are not permitted onsite we do hope this will alleviate the congestion in this area each day.

Kate Morrison

Mrs Kate Morrison, who is the class teacher in 1C, commences her maternity leave on Monday.  We would like to wish Kate and Luke a restful few weeks until baby Morrison enters the world. We had our first virtual special morning tea this week to celebrate Kate’s exciting journey ahead.

We will miss you Kate

Curriculum Day Wednesday 4 November

Following the Melbourne Cup Day public holiday next Tuesday, we have our last curriculum day for the year.  As this is a School Council approved pupil free day, students are not required at school on Wednesday 4 November.  The BNPS staff will all be at school as usual, with teachers working on the Semester Two reports.  OSHC will be operating from 7.30am – 6.00pm for those families who require the service.
