A very big thank you to all the Prep - Year 2 families who helped out with baking for our Cake Stall. There were so many delicious items on sale, and it was certainly a very hard decision choosing what to purchase! A huge thank you also goes to our amazing organising committee and also to all the wonderful helpers who were selling on the day.
It was a huge success, raising an amazing $706.60!
Each year, the Lorraine Francis Community Award is presented at schools in the Bentleigh electorate. It is named after the late Lorraine Francis, former principal of St Peter’s Primary School, East Bentleigh from 1995 until 2005. Lorraine always taught her students the value of service to others. Whether it was participating in school fundraisers to provide aid for people in remote villages around the world, or for causes closer to home, Lorraine encouraged her students to make the lives of others better. In doing this, she empowered her students to be strong leaders.
Here at Valkstone, teachers nominate a student from Year 6 who has demonstrated strong leadership, has been involved in causes that improve the lives of others in the community and, most importantly, has been a strong role model for other students. Recipients receive a trophy and a voucher for Benn’s Books, Bentleigh.
Kabir Sabnani is the 2022 recipient of the Lorraine Francis Award here at Valkstone. He is one of the school’s house captains and has been described by his teachers as one of the most positive, kind and friendly students at the school.
Congratulations Kabir on this well-deserved recognition!
Earlier this year, the Federal Government announced a program of community grants that would provide funding to groups and organisations for the purpose of community-based tree planting.
The objective of the program was to mark the significant occasion of Her Majesty's Jubilee through community tree planting events across Australia. The program also intended to:
Earlier this year Marilyn Koolstra and the Grounds & Buildings Committee applied for and were successful in gaining one of these grants. This allowed us to purchase a number of trees that were planted behind the basketball/netball courts and between these courts and the oval.
On Friday 8th October the Honourable Clare O'Neil MP visited Valkstone, on behalf of the Federal Government, to attend our commemorative event. It was a chance to share the background of the grant with our Year 6 students, and celebrate the diversity of flora and fauna that the trees will bring to our school.
If you know that your child/ren will not be returning to Valkstone in 2023, please email the school office at valkstone.ps@education.vic.gov.au to notify us as soon as possible. Please include details of their last day with us here at Valkstone, the name of their new school, and a forwarding address if applicable.
Please note that if your child is currently in Year 6, this does NOT apply to you as we already have all their transition information.
Our values for this term are Fairness and Honesty.
At Valkstone we respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Victoria and pay respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples.
