Staff in the Spotlight

With so many staff joining our team this year, we would like to give our school community the opportunity to get to know our new teachers in a fun way. Each week we will be spotlighting a new staff member and sharing with you all sorts of fun and interesting stories about who they are and most importantly, why they became a teacher and what they love most about teaching!

This week we are spotlighting Kristy Amat Y Leon.

Although only joining our English team this term, it feels like Kristy has been with us much longer. She has made an excellent start at Wantirna and her students are thoroughly enjoying her classes.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Young adults are the future of our society. I wanted to be part of the change of our future by supporting innovation and student wellbeing in a rapidly evolving world.

What do you love most about teaching?

Developing a strong rapport with young adults, where they feel comfortable in confiding in me or saying hello in the yard. That always puts a smile on my face.

Where's your favourite holiday destination?

Europe is my ultimate holiday destination, mostly for the beaches along the Amalfi Coast and the Alps in Switzerland.

What are tv show/series did you last binge watch?

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. A nostalgic show that brought memories back from the original series of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

If you could wear Harry's invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do?

I'd head to as many theatres as possible and get the best seat in the house to watch musicals.
