Semester 1 Year 10 Art Exhibitions

For the last couple of months we have been showcasing the incredible mixed-media Cubist collages made by Year 10 Art students in Semester 1 as part of their Drawing unit. Students did weeks of all types of still-life drawings, from realistic to abstract, using a variety of media like papers, plaster, inks, PVA glue and more.

Still-life refers to objects drawn from real life: inanimate things that can be arranged on a surface like a table. For us, we raided the Food Technology cupboards for glassware and crockery! What do you think of the tri-coloured line drawings, overlapping drawings from different viewpoints? Could you try it at home? Show me if you do!

This Cubist exhibition is now over, and in its place, in our Art foyer, are the canvas paintings from this same group for our Painting unit.

Based on the painting style of a group of 1940s Australian artists called the "Angry Penguins", students had to show a social issue affecting us today. Angry Penguin artist Albert Tucker did a series called "Images of Modern Evil", so students looked at today's images of "modern evil".

They came up with concepts for their artworks based on themes such as environmental degradation, war and political issues, and drink-driving. Each artwork has an accompanying description so that viewers can understand the ideas behind each student's artwork. (Great to see these students pictured enjoying the exhibition!)

I am so proud of my Semester 1 Year 10 Art students - well done!!!

I can't wait to see what my Year 10 Art students in Semester 2 create!
