Around the Grounds

Moving around the campus this past week has been a great chance to experience some of the wonderful learning opportunities on offer. I went into a Humanities lesson who have been given the creative challenge to create a documentary on Australia's involvement in World War I which, according to their Production Brief, is designed for the foyer of a new museum that is to be opened. I entered into an English lesson where students were using Canva to create a persuasive advertising campaign for the College. At the Donnelly Building older students were cramming in other certificates to strengthen their resume before Graduation. At the library we were hosting the Annual "Book in a Day' event. In the Florence Williams Building I saw a collection of some exceptional pieces of Art on display and finally I had the pleasure of popping into a junior Music class who were proudly belting out a rendition of a top 20 chart stopper of today  ~ I won't mention the name in case this group of year 8's are planning to release it on vinyl. And to top all of that off I went looking for the Year 9's only to find a notice on the door  "Surf's up- back next week"  ~ referring to their Year 9 Surf Camp.

I tried to capture some of the highlights in the images below but even photos don't do justice to the experience of being there to watch the curiosity and learning take shape. Our students are very lucky here at St. Peters.

GRADUATION

This week has seen the College Leaders welcome our new families for 2023 through the Transition Evening. At the other end, Thursday saw the start of our long goodbye to the graduating class of 2022. The graduation process at St. Peter's College begins with our Year 12 students providing  a shared Thanksgiving morning tea hosted by staff in our Staff social area. The symbolism and mutual respect  shown was very powerful, with our graduates in a sign of gratitude, ensuring no one left hungry with a cornucopia of delights.

Graduation continues Monday with the planting of a "Class of 2022" tree,  Tutor group Farewells, Final House Assemblies, Graduation Assembly, Graduation BBQ, Thanksgiving Mass and topping it all off with a Valedictory Dinner.

For many, it will suddenly dawn on them that Monday is likely to be the very last time this group of young people… a group who have come together and grown together over six years…. a group who waded through the murky stench of lockdowns and restrictions … get a chance to be together as one.

I am sure I sit with parents and guardians in being genuinely inspired by the people they have become. They are destined for great things.
