In 2003, the then St. Peter’s Church, Tooradin was re-located to St. Peter’s College Cranbourne. The church was built in 1922 and had served as the Mass Centre of the Tooradin Catholic community for eighty years.

Since its re-location, the building has served as the St. Peter’s College Chapel. As such, over the past twenty years, the chapel has hosted House Masses, Parish Masses, Weddings, Renewal of Wedding Vows, Bereavement Liturgies, and Staff and Student Prayer Liturgies. It is also a place of quiet reflection.

There are several Petrine symbols in the chapel that are of interest. Two of which deserve some comment.

The first is the statue of St. Peter at the entrance of the chapel. The statue depicts St. Peter holding an open book that symbolises sacred scripture. On the book there is a quote written in Latin. Translated it reads: You are Peter, and, on this rock, I will build my Church. These are the words Christ said to Peter when Peter proclaimed Jesus as the Christ that had been promised.

The second is the stain glass window behind the altar. The window depicts the Keys of Heaven, symbolising the authority of Peter and an inverted cross that reminds the viewer of the traditional method of Peter’s martyrdom: being crucified upside down.

Recently, the college celebrated the centenary of the blessing of the building. The college community gives thanks to the people of Tooradin for their generosity and to all those who worked to refurbish the building so that it can be used as the St. Peter’s College Chapel.
