Intermediate Girls' Softball

The Intermediate girls’ softball team travelled to Kingston Heath Reserve to play in the Southern Metropolitan Regional Finals on Wednesday, 2 May. Our first game was against McKinnon High School. We made a good start to the game and the score was all tied up 6 – 6. Unfortunately, we didn’t score in the 4th innings and lost. Our second game was against a powerful Glen Eira team who regularly complete in State Finals. In the past we have not been able to score any runs against this team, but this year we scored 5 runs. Our defence was solid in the first three innings, but Glen Eira got the better of us late in the game. The players showed excellent sportsmanship and spirit.

Team members include: Thirandie Abeydeera, Shenali Hewage, Joyce Houghton, Mint Inchomnan, Kavisha Nawinna, Amelia Qi, Thyda Rim, Shivaani Sivaraj, Pavithra Sridhar, Elizabeth Thomas and Holly Vuong. Best players for the day were our pitcher Kavisha , shortstop Mint and Shivaani who made a double play! Well done to all the girls.

Senior Sport Update

On Tuesday 1 May, Nossal’s Year 11 and 12 students competed in the Casey North Division Soccer and Netball Competitions. After a quick turn around for team selection, we managed to send 4 teams out to enjoy the day while also getting the health benefits of their participation. All teams gave it a good crack and tried their best against some strong and impressive opponents. Congratulations to all who were involved and thank you for the staff who coached and attended this event.

On Wednesday 2 May, our Intermediate Girls Softball team competed at the Southern Metropolitan Region Competition at Kingston Heath Reserve in Cheltenham. With tough competition from McKinnon and Glen Eira Secondary College’s our Nossal girls did a great job to getting bat to ball and competing as it was their first time playing a game as a team. A big thank you to Michelle Desaulniers for coaching the girls.

Senior Boys' Soccer

On the 1 May, Nossal's Senior Boys Soccer Team competed in the Division Competition at Grices Reserve. After a brisk warm-up, the boys went out into their first game. Berwick SC took a 1-0 lead after an amazing strike following a mistake from Nossal and then added another late goal from a set piece corner.

Still surprised by the shock upset victory for Berwick, Nossal went on to play our biggest competition and the eventual winners of the day, Gleneagles. Nossal’s own Leo C scored the first goal of the match from a penalty as Nossal took the lead into the half, however the team unfortunately conceded a goal due to defensive error. It was a disappointing result and Nossal was left feeling unsatisfied after the performance that would’ve put them into a good position despite the earlier loss.

In the final game of the day, things began to look up for Nossal HS as they chased their first win of the competition.  Another wonderful goal by Leo followed by defensive work by a tired and injured Nossal team, left us drawing once again to Fountain Gate. Though disappointed with our results, the boys knew that this hadn’t their best performance.  A couple of our key players had received injuries and with a reserve goalkeeper missing an open goal, the team travelled back to school still hungry to play together and soon.

Senior Girls' Soccer

On Tuesday 1 May, our Senior Girls Soccer team faced off with Hallam Senior Girls team on a beautiful day at Sweeney Reserve. We played a 45-minute first half and 30-minute second half, which physically tested our girls against a quality opposition. With 15 girls rolling on and off the ground we fought on bravely after a difficult start – 7 goals to 1 down in the first half.

In the second half, after some tweaking of formation and game plan we found our rhythm and scored the first goal of the second half before conceding two more before full time. A 2-1 second half was a much-improved effort with all girls improving their connections and understanding.

A special mention goes to Diya who was inspirational up front scoring our two goals and creating many other opportunities. Thank you to all girls involved.
