Principal's Report

House Athletics

Last Friday was the House Athletics and what a marvellous celebration it was.  The weather was perfect, just a little wet underfoot in some areas. We saw all the students from Years 3 to 6 competing for their House. A highlight was the ‘House Chants’ - these are prepared before the day by each team and then performed at the end of the day. The enthusiasm and passion displayed by all teams was electric! This year the winning chant went to Yellow House. Again, it was wonderful to see so many parents, grandparents and friends in attendance cheering our athletes along.  In particular it was a special day for four of our mums, Sandy, Sue, Simone and Fiona. It was their final House Athletics after many years of dedicated support.

A huge thank you to the Parent’s Association who provided and distributed the icy poles for all the students. The School Athletics Team has now been finalised and will be heading off next Friday to compete in the District Athletics Carnival, we wish all our competitors the very best of luck.

Planning Week

Next week the students will experience a slight change to their normal routine. We have planning week when teams of teachers are released from their classrooms for one day to plan together in readiness for Term 2. The classes will be taken by our specialist team for this day.

Parents as Helpers

This term I have noticed an increase in the number of parents attending our volunteer induction sessions and would just like to acknowledge how much we all at Syndal South greatly appreciate and value the assistance given to us by parents, grandparents and previous staff members. I am in the special position that I see firsthand across the school the invaluable assistance that our students are enjoying.

Some of the assistance that parents provide includes preparing for activities, working with small groups on special activities, accompanying groups of students to swimming, assisting on sports days, accompanying a class on an excursion, attending and assisting on school camp just to name a few.  Thank you for all that you do for us.

Coronavirus Update

Just to continue to re-insure our families, that the Department of Education is in continuous contact with the Department of Human Services and is regularly sending updates to schools.

This website is being updated for families regularly.

Still, the most important area that we have control over is our hygiene.

  • WASH hands often with soap and running water, for at least 20 seconds. DRY with paper towel or hand dryer.
  • TRY not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • COVER your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow.

I have also had this website forwarded to me from a health professional that you may find of interest, in particular information about the actual virus itself.
