Long Weekend
This Friday 8th of June is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the most widely practiced Catholic devotions, taking Jesus Christ’s physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity. We can draw strength and hope from the heart of Jesus, as we pray:
Holy Heart of Jesus, Sweet Sanctuary of rest,
Bring peace to my soul and settle my spirit,
Especially in matters that trouble and burden our hearts.
We vow to place all our worries and fears
into the wound of your Sacred Heart,
there to be tended to in accordance of your strength and faith,
which desires only the best and highest good.
Your love alone is enough, and we draw courage from it;
Clinging to the hope of peace for ourselves and our loved ones. Amen.
Our Senior and Junior Athletics Carnivals were both held under grey skies over the past two days but even the drizzle did not dampen the spirit of our young men. Competition and involvement went on in earnest with all students enjoying the day of athletic activity.
At the Senior Carnival on Tuesday our Year 12 students certainly lead with good spirits that set a great tone of enjoyment for all. In the Senior School Carnival the honours of the day went to Treacy, followed closely by Barron, then Rice and Purton.
The Junior School Carnival greeted us with a grey gloom which burnt off to brilliant sunny skies and finished with a splash of rain, but not before every young man had thrown, jumped and run with great determination to set up a thrilling contest for the winner of the 2018 Carnival. Due to the slippery conditions the high jump event has been postponed to next week, and this will decide the winning House. Good luck!
Thank you to the Staff who ran each day so well under trying conditions and certainly made sure everyone’s spirits remained high to ensure two successful days. Particular thanks go to the parents and Year 11 students who also helped with the running of the Junior School Carnival. Finally a special thank you to Mr Matt Stearn and Mr Greg Virgona for their excellent preparation and organisation of two successful Carnivals.
Thank you also to the many parents who joined us on the days to witness the great spirit of our young men.

We received lovely praise for our students who helped in the recent annual Red Shield Door-knock Appeal. Kristina Tombolato, from The Northside Salvos Chatswood, passed on the following kind words: “It is always great to meet these young men and they are a credit to the time and investment being poured into them through their time at St Pius. “
Last Friday night was the Third Annual White Knight Foundation Dinner in support of victims of violence. Liam Knight from the Class of 2013, after being a victim of such an act, has established this Foundation along with the support of his family, and now many more join him in raising funds to support the victims of such crimes.
Liam spoke with great passion for this cause, along with the support of Channel 9’s Karl Stefanovic, the Deputy Commissioner of Police and many others, to ensure the night was a great success.
Liam is a credit to the power of resilience and determination. With the support of a loving family he is now going ahead in his own career, and being the champion for other victims through the great work of his White Knight Foundation.
I do hope you are able to enjoy the coming three day break with your family. Our young men have been fully involved with assessments and engaging learning, with our dedicated staff being right at the forefront at this time of the term. Keep up the encouragement for your son as we power ahead through Term 2.
