Dear Parents and Players,
Well done on the weekend to all teams. There were many impressive wins, none more so than 15A’s dominant 5-2 victory. It has been particularly pleasing to have seen and had so many reports about the sportsmanship and the way in which SPX players play the game which can, at times, be challenging with opponents testing players' resolve. Remember to always play in the spirit of the game.
Please note that due to the long weekend, there are no games this Saturday and no training on Monday.
Below are the DRAFT times for Saturday 16th June.

Football Club News
JULY Holidays Football Skill Camp: The committee has organised another 3 day football skill camp in the upcoming Winter holidays. The camp will be held on 18-20th July from 9am – 1 pm.
Booking and full details will be available shortly.
Coaching Update: We have received great feedback from parents and coaching staff on the coaching support being provided by our Technical Coaching director, Chris Semaan, and his coaching team during the afternoon training sessions and also attending the Saturday games to assess how the teams are progressing and identifying teams that can do with a bit more hands in support. We thanks Chris and his team for their dedication.
2018 Football World Cup Event: Unfortunately due to logistics issues around holding the event at the College we will be unable to proceed with the event as planned. We are looking at alternatives at this point and will update if we can make something come together.

Kinross Wolaroi School, Orange, 16th June 2018
To assist in your planning, the annual away trip to Orange is on Saturday 16th June. The matches on the day do not usually commence until 11am, giving students time to travel up on the day. If you son requires transport via coach they need to add their name to the list on the admin veranda. This coach will depart Chatswood at 6:30am and return at the completion of the 1st XV match.
The only exception will be the 13Cs rugby team who are scheduled to play against the Scots School, Bathurst. There is a chance that this match could also be played at Kinross, this information, as well as all other times, will be relayed to parents as soon as it is received.
Often parents take the opportunity to have a weekend away and the rugby committee have organised a dinner on Friday evening at the Lord Anson which is located opposite the Orange Ex-Services Club. Please be aware that the College photo day will be held on Friday 15th June and no students will be granted early leave to travel to Orange until after lunch on that day.

16s come out on top
'Garvey, Cogan and Pawlak' ... no, not a legal drama on Netflix but our winning 16Cs, 16Bs and 16As coaches.
The ISA was launched on Saturday and this season we are in the elite group, playing all our opponents at equal level, hence the significance of the 16's whitewash. The 16's numbers at training have been good, and with a high level of technical competency and relevant coaching they will continue to flourish.
Both 14 As and 15As were involved in tight games and although losing, gained valuable experience which will help them win future close encounters.
Both Hunter Bird and Charlie Crnek deserve mention for their performances in the 16As and 15As.
Attendance at training is the key to improving as a player. I say it repeatedly: don’t be surprised how good you can become if you make the commitment!
Enjoy the long weekend but make sure you find time for some individual training. Then it’s full on into preparation for Kinross.

We are delighted again to have former Wallaby, current Rugby Australia Elite Coaching Development Officer, and Fox Sports’ personality, Rod Kafer as our MC for the evening.
Also, we are very fortunate to have a very special guest speaker for the evening - Mick Byrne, the current Australian Wallabies’ skills coach, and former New Zealand All Blacks’ skills coach. Mick knows both Aussie and Kiwi rugby in detail and has stories to tell!
Tickets are $150 per head (unchanged from last year), which includes canapes and drinks on arrival, a three course meal with wine and beer, great entertainment, live auctions, silent auctions, raffles and lucky door prizes.
This year, every ticket holder who books their ticket by Tuesday, 12 June will go into a draw for a chance to win the ‘Golden Lucky Door Prize’ of $500 in cash, drawn at the dinner. Book early and win!
The dinner is the Rugby Club’s principal fund raising event for the year and we rely on your support at our dinner to raise the money needed to fund initiatives that improve your son’s Rugby development and enjoyment in ‘our’ game that also forms life-long friendships which our boys will develop through their involvement in SPX rugby.
Again, this season the Rugby Club has budgeted to spend in excess of $50,000 to assist the College in the further development of the rugby program, in both the Senior and Junior Colleges – including funding the Rugby Development Officer and 7 external assistant rugby coaches, provision of physiotherapy services at our home games; financial support for College touring squads (Opens – Gold Coast Tour; Under 15’s – New Zealand Tour; Prep First XV – Armidale TAS Tour); filming and analysis of games; and, financially supporting students’ referee accreditation courses.
Support your sons. Enjoy a great night out. We look forward to seeing you at the SPX Rugby Dinner!
Regards,
Paul O’Neill (on behalf of the SPX Rugby Supporters’ Club Committee)
