Arts Specialism

Semester One 2017
The Arts are for all our students at Melton Secondary College, and creativity is an academic as well as co-curricular pursuit. Music, Drama, Photography, Media and Visual Arts provide our students with the opportunity to speak in their own unique voice. Students can develop their own rhythms and beats, create their own images and objects as well as find interesting and new ways to express themselves. We also value the opportunity the Arts provide for a rounded approach to life-long learning. Our aim is to enhance student interest, passion and understanding of cultural activity and what it provides in better understanding who we are. Engaging and innovative programmes in the Music, Drama, Photography, Media and Visual Arts put student learning, wellbeing and positive education into action with a focus on creativity.
In Semester One, the Arts Specialism at the College has had multiple excursions where students have participated in unique painting and photography workshops as well as observed and interacted with artworks at galleries including the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Australian Centre for Moving Image.
Over the coming weeks we will be publishing in the Melton Mail images of students work and our upcoming events, so please watch this space!

Year 12 Studio Arts Excursion
This term Melton Secondary College’s Year 11 & 12 Studio Arts classes had the special opportunity see the inner workings of StArt Up:Top Arts exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. Students were blown away by the impressive display of works in a variety of art forms including film, printmaking, drawing, sculpture and more created by high achieving 2016 Studio Arts students. After leaving the exhibition the Year 11 & 12’s listened to a lecture and private viewing of the exhibiting artists’ folios, giving them an insight into the themes, working methods, materials, techniques and sources of inspiration used to develop the artworks on display.
This was an invaluable experience especially for Year 12 students who gained inspiration from the outstanding folios, they are now pushing themselves to build on the quality and quantity of their work to produce a cohesive folio of finished artworks later this year.
