CHILD SAFE

Melton Secondary College is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This is the primary focus of our care and decision-making. Melton Secondary College is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.

All staff, contractors, volunteers and any other member of the school community involved in child-related work are required to comply with the Child Safe Code of Conduct by observing expectations for appropriate behaviour towards and in the company of children.

This Child Safe Code of Conduct outlines a range of acceptable behaviours such as:

  • treating students and families in the school community with respect both within the school environment and outside the school environment as part of normal social and community activities.
  • listening and responding to the views and concerns of students, particularly if they are telling you that they or another child has been abused or that they are worried about their safety/the safety of another child.
  • understanding and complying with all reporting or disclosure obligations (including mandatory reporting) as they relate to protecting children from harm or abuse.
  • if child abuse is suspected, ensuring as quickly as possible that the student(s) are safe and protected from harm.

Everyone has the right to be safe and be protected from abuse. No one should behave in a way that makes them feel unsafe or afraid, including anyone in your family, anyone at school or anywhere else in the community. Our students are being asked to tell a teacher or any adult at school if they feel unsafe.

It’s everyone’s responsibility. Adults at school must listen and respond to concerns about child abuse. If there is suspected abuse of any child or young person, there is a responsibility to report it, even if we are unsure. Further information & resources www.education.vic.gov.au/protect

Edrolo

Year 11 & 12 VCE

This year the school has purchased an on-line program called Edrolo to assist our VCE students. Edrolo contains hundreds of short video-recorded lessons so that students can re-hear content, slow down the pace of delivery, or pause while they take notes. All the content is written explicitly for the VCE. The program also contains quizzes for each subject and practice exams.

Many of our teachers have integrated Edrolo into their Homework expectations. As a parent/guardian, you can assist your child by regularly asking to see which videos they have watched and what scores they have achieved on the assessments.

If you have any questions about how to check your child’s progress on Edrolo, please get in contact with the Senior Sub-school.

Year 11 VCAL

Structured work placement is an integral part of a VCAL program. At the moment our Year 11 Foundation and Intermediate students are undertaking a two week Work Experience Placement. As a parent, you can assist them benefit from this experience by talking about what they did each day and how to overcome any obstacles they faced.

Students will gain most from this experience if they are genuinely exploring career interests. However, even if your son/daughter is working in an area that they do not intend to pursue as a career, they can learn a lot about the world of work.
