Principal's Report

David Reynolds - Principal

Success is based on Planning, Practice and Persistence

A key focus for students over the coming three weeks will be preparation for the end of semester exams and assessments. Students who have kept up a steady level of work through the semester will be reviewing their workbooks and the feedback they have received from their teachers, practicing exams and finalizing assessment pieces to meet due dates. If students have fallen behind due to absence or incomplete work, they will be making sure that they are doing their best to fill in the gaps. It is never too late to achieve a strong result. Students should also remember that assistance is available from teachers during the school day and the after school Home Work Club which operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

At Melton Secondary College we place the highest value on student work that shows improvement and progress. This is what every student should be aiming to achieve by setting a clear goal that stretches their level of success. With planning, practice and persistence they will achieve their goals and see this reflected in their semester reports.

Child Safe-Protect

Protect is the Department of Education and Training (DET) program to implement Child Safe Standards across all government schools in Victoria. Earlier this term, Melton Secondary College a team from the regional office of DET audited our Protect practices and policies and found them to be well advanced. Their feedback was that "not only are Child Safe Standards embedded in all aspects of service delivery, but that [the school is] delivering a multitude of programs and services that are truly inclusive of the diverse range  of cohort groups within [the] school."

This is a testimony to the value that our school community places on the safety of young people and the excellent work being done by  staff to provide a safe and supportive learning environment. Further information about Protect is provided later in this edition of the Melton Mail.

Community Forum

This Thursday 8 June, parents and carers are invited to come up to the school and join me in a discussion about how we are progressing as a school. There will be an opportunity to discuss issues that were raised in the recent SBS documentary Testing Teachers including the work that the college is doing to give all students regardless of their background the best chance of achieving outstanding results and go on to further education and employment.

Please join me at the college from 5.30 - 6.30 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
