Secondary Campus Report

From the Secondary Campus

This week has seen an intensifying of assessments as we reach the mid-point of the term. A number of common assessment tasks or CATS have been completed by students. Teachers have provided positive feedback on the manner and dedication by students to the assessments.  It is really important that your child completes the CATS on the day.  If they are ill, a medical certificate will be needed for the absence in almost all circumstances so that a re-sit of the task can take place.

On your next visit into our learning street you will notice something quite different. Our pods and classrooms are now arranged in Domain or Faculty rather than year level areas. Students move to the Domain pods in English, Maths, Humanities and Health/PE. We also have Domain spaces in purpose-built classes including Science/STEM, Technology, Performing Arts, Food Technology and PE. This enables resources to be readily available and that spaces are presented in a format that suits the pedagogical needs of the Domain. The spaces provide opportunities to promote student learning with displays, posters and the celebration of student work.

Our Athletics Day was held for the first time on our new school oval. It was our first sports whole school sports day and luckily the unpredictable weather held out for a great day. Thanks to Matt Borg who organised and convened the day and the Health & PE team for their work. Particular thanks to the student leaders and Fast Track students for their leadership, especially with the primary student program. It was really nice to see many Lakes families attend and support the children. Your support is always valued and much appreciated.

There are some housekeeping matters I would like to bring to your attention. There are still students riding to school or bringing their scooters with no helmets worn. We will be calling the local council providing the names of the students who continue to ignore the traffic regulation as a fair and reasonable moratorium has been given.  A reminder that undergarments worn under jumpers and shirts that are exposed are not school uniform. Students are not to roll up pants above their ankles or put a tight bow on their shirts and jumpers.

We are committed to maximising the learning time at school so we need your support in addressing both lateness to school and truancy. This clearly impedes the learning of all students as it disrupts the flow of classes. Please remind your children to arrive early enough so that they can get to their lockers, collect relevant resources and make it to the beginning of Home Group. Attendance Rolls are marked at the start of this session. Our aim is to eliminate late arrivals and we need your support. Similarly, students will be asked to make up any time lost as a result of truancy. This is not common but if a student does not attend a class without prior permission, then you will be advised and asked for your support.

Thank you for your cooperation and support once again.

Bill.
