From the College Principal

This week I have witnessed our students as community leaders in a huge variety of situations.

Let’s start with Monday night when Nikitah, our Performing Arts Captain, represented us at the City of Whittlesea Grants Celebration. She collected a grant for $5000 to facilitate a Music project called Through the Lens of our Youth. We also collected grants for Healthy Life, submiitted by Bianca M, and Harmony Day and an Arts Grant submitted by Kate, our school nurse.

Monday also saw Mischa - Inclusion and Cultural Ambassador - working with Kate the school nurse preparing for Harmony celebrations next Tuesday.  Our 9/10 Volleyball teams stepped up too, digging deep and making us proud.

On Tuesday our sixteen 'Tradewise' students headed out to Melbourne Polytechnic to continue our pathway exploration. I think the photo below sums up the situation.

On Wednesday our Primary House Captains looked superb when they donned their house colours and whipped up a frenzy of house pride. Our school captains together with the 6-10 SRC ran the BBQ and raised a tidy profit for victims of our summer fires.

Our Fast Track students worked closely with our primary students to engage in an array of events that were enjoyed by all.

The dance crew entertained the troops and the sports captains ran all day.

Thursday saw a range of activities across both campuses showcasing our incredulous leaders in the many activities and events we have at The Lakes, including a Production practice with actors, musicians and dancers all taking a leap of faith and having a go.

Today it goes on - the Primary School Captains running assembly, the SRC representatives collecting Easter treats from their out of uniform peers while the secondary sport captains Bek and Jack shared the Athletics Cup with our Primary Students.

I would say “not bad for a week”. Every week your students step up and show their talents and we, teachers and parents have an obligation to create opportunities for each student to shine. Everyone needs time in the spotlight for the right reasons.

Please continue to encourage your children to take a risk and be supportive if there is disappointment.  Many of our greatest influencers and true leaders are not those who are at front and centre, but those with the strategic skills, the planners and the people winners.

Value your strengths, seek opportunities to build your toolkit and model integrity, gratitude and hardworking for our next generation.
