Introducing Fr. Nathan McKay

OSF – OLHOC Parish Priest and St Mary’s Chaplain

My name is Fr. Nathan McKay and I’m the parish priest at Our Lady Help of Christians (Earlville) and oversee the Catholic schools within the parish. You will see me at College meetings, social functions and celebrating Mass in the school community. My response to a call to Ministerial Priesthood came rather late, with the thought first entering my mind at age seventeen and I finally said ‘Yes’ twenty – one years later.

There was certainly a period of discernment as I experienced various aspects of life. My first childhood memories are of Singapore since my dad was in the Royal Australian Air Force for twenty plus years and it was initially my desire to join the military. When undertaking tertiary studies (Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Education) I supported my studies by working in the hospitality industry. I then completed a Bachelor of Theology and Graduate Diploma in Theology at the Pontifical Beda College in Rome, which were my required studies for priesthood. I have recently completed a Masters in Spiritual Direction through the Jesuit College of Spirituality in Melbourne. Before priesthood I was a high school teacher for eight years in Catholic schools and my first teaching position was at St. Mary’s and it is good to be back in the school as a priest. My spirituality could be described as Franciscan and Ignatian.

I find as a priest some people don’t know how to react, when they ask what do you do for a job? However, once they start talking to me, they realise I can have a conversation about numerous things. One thing I do like is fishing and I try and do this where I can. If you do see me around please do introduce yourself.

God Bless

Fr. Nathan

(Parish Priest & Vocations Director)

Scripture Reflection Group

(Every Friday in OLHOC parish centre at 6 PM). This will be for one hour where Lectio Devina and/or Ignatian Contemplation (Imaginative Contemplation) will be utilised. In the last 20 minutes, we will have a more academic look at the Scripture piece. We can then go for a meal afterward if people would like. The meal is not compulsory, but an option for those who would like to attend.
