It has been pleasing to observe students making informed, careful decisions regarding their subject selections recently. From Year 9 onwards, students are encouraged to actively participate in their future pathways, choosing subjects that will best enhance their capabilities and interest, so it is always good when this opportunity is treated with the care and value it warrants. Web Preferences, our Years 9-11, 2022 online Subject Selection program, has recently closed and class sizes and offerings are being collated.
Senior Years of schooling
The preparation of lines and subject offerings for senior schooling is a significant task each year. Students are invited to participate in drafting opportunities to determine offerings that will best meet the needs of their cohort; what is offered for one cohort may not even be considered by the next year’s cohort. We welcome and encourage student involvement in this process whilst at the same time acknowledging that it is a timely process, so deadlines do need to be met. Missing key timelines can impact on individual student choices; as a school we do need to look at the cohort as a whole entity so the process cannot cater for the student who eventually chooses to be interested after the deadline. Following the close of Web Preferences, we will now look at our final lines and class sizes. Any concerns will be addressed directly with the Year 10 student, as required.
Students in senior need to have a realistic knowledge of strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, and prerequisites; it is important that they ask questions and listen to advice. Remember, there is no magic to it…just appropriate choices and hard work.
SETPlan interviews – choosing an appropriate pathway!
Ms Rebecca Ambrose, our Careers Counsellor, has finalised the SETPlan interviews with all Year 10 students and their parents/guardians. This has been a valuable opportunity to discuss pathways and to ensure that decisions being made for senior schooling are appropriate to the desired outcome. Thank you to all those parents who met with Ms Ambrose; your support and participation with these very important decisions is appreciated.
If your child has chosen a VET pathway, you will need to have an enrolment interview with Mr Breck Nielsen (bnielsen@cns.catholic.edu.au ) as soon as possible to discuss options for Thursdays and Fridays. It is a case of ‘first in’ due to class size and resourcing restrictions.
