Clayfield College Council

We would like to welcome Charlene Berndt and Gemma Alker to the Clayfield College Council.

 

Charlene Berndt 

 

Charlene is Director of A&TSI Services for the Department of Natural Resources and Mining, her experience in senior leadership roles extends over a decade, she has worked extensively in child safety, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural affairs and public service commission. 

 

Her primary focus has been Human Resources and initiatives focused on building cultural capability, mentoring programs and career pathways for indigenous staff, and indigenous staff attraction and retention. 

 

In her recent work, Charlene has been exploring how to embed cultural capability as a core leadership skill within organisations. Throughout her career, Charlene has been an advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Charlene has extensive government experience at the senior officer/governance level. She has provided leadership in policy, including child safety and program management and is a change agent with a focus on diversity and inclusion, particularly cultural agility.

 

Gemma Alker 

 

A seasoned and innovative executive Gemma currently holds the position of Centre Manager - Centre of Future Enterprise at QUT. Gemma is responsible for leading the global engagement and partnership strategy for a leading digital innovation research unit within QUT Business School, which is in the top 1% triple AAA rated business schools globally. 

 

Over the past decade, Gemma has worked with key leaders in Industry to drive growth strategies in the education sector. 

 

Gemma has spearheaded some of the education industries highly successful projects, including launching Australia's first primary school entrepreneurship pitch competition engaging 4000 students, 200 schools nationally and securing partnerships with Moose Toys, HP and EduTech.
