Year 5 Public Speaking Competition

Our Year 5 Public Speaking finalists entertained students, parents and teachers during their annual competition on Monday. The audience was asked to consider the amount of time they spent in front of a screen, encouraged to play basketball, dream of a life after COVID, consider the beauty in being different and imagine life as part of a large family. Congratulations to Evelyn Wells for being awarded first place by convincing us all homework should be banned! We extend our congratulations also to Isaac Piyong and Savaana Kapur in attaining second place, and Neve McBride who placed third. Thank you to Mrs Eagle, Head of English and Humanities, for fulfilling the unenviable job of the adjudicator. She was very impressed by the student’s confidence, expression, articulation and engagement with the audience.

Henny Penny Hatching in Pre-Prep and Prep

How ‘eggs-citing’ to have an opportunity to watch eggs hatching and observe chicks at play! The Pre-Prep and Prep children are engaging with hands-on learning about living things and lifecycles as they observe, ask questions and gently pat or hold a newborn chick. The eggs arrived at school on Monday in a specially designed incubator. Once the chicks hatch, they move to a brooding pen with a warm light and wood shavings to keep them comfortable. The children are thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to share their classroom with the chicks until the end of Term 3.

Student Representative Council - Photo Competition

The SRC encourages all Primary Students to enter their Photo Competition to raise money for the Cancer Council. There will be a Prep – Year 2, Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 category. For $1 per photo entry, students are asked to capture a natural, manmade or animal image. All students who enter will receive a certificate, with the winner of each category being given the opportunity to select books to the value of $25.

To enter, please complete the form which will be sent home in College diaries this week. All photos are due by Friday, 8 October, and are to be emailed to Mrs Corness at vcorness@clayfield.qld.edu.au. The SRC will judge the entries and announce the winners at our first Assembly in Term 4. What a wonderful idea for a holiday project!

Primary School Film Festival

Next term, Clayfield College will be hosting its inaugural red carpet ‘Shining Lights’ Film Festival. The theme of the festival is ‘Connection’. All students from Prep to Year 6 are eligible to enter in either small groups or as an individual.

Further details about the Film Festival and entry form are in the Principal's section of this weeks newsletter.
