Live Love Learn

Dear Families,

We would like to congratulate our students, parents and staff for a fabulous week of remote learning. Our new remote learning model started on Monday 16th August and we have been very impressed by our students who have engaged in daily online lessons in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

We are proud of our staff who have prepared wonderful online whole class lessons, small focus groups and organised afternoon tasks for students to complete independently. With many aspects of our lives feeling different while we are in lockdown, it has been nice to return to a structured school day where students are interacting more regularly with each other and their teacher.

We would like to thank you all for persevering through the teething problems that have come with adapting to a new model this week. We look forward to seeing you all back online next week for what we predict will be smoother as we settle into this new remote learning model.

Next week is Book Week and we have some special activities at Galilee that have been included in our remote learning timetable.

Next week we will have:

  • Special Guests that will be reading different stories to the students throughout the week.
  • A live Drama Performance for Book Week that students can view online on Tuesday 24th August.
  • A Dress Up day on Thursday 26th August, where we are asking all students to dress up as their favourite book character.
  • A lesson with an illustrator on Thursday 26th August.
  • A whole school Book Week Assembly on Thursday 26th August at 2pm.
  • An optional Dance Party on Thursday 26th August between 5-5.30pm that Miss Sarah Jones will be running.

We hope you are as excited about Book Week as we are. All links to the different events will be posted on your class Dojo page.

Wellbeing

Connecting with you.

By deliberately making time to stop and focus on your own thoughts every day, you will feel you are in control of you. The reality is that your generation is connected to everyone else except themselves, and often pretending to be someone they are not. Your greatest advantage is you, so four or five times every day, turn off your device to enjoy JOMO (Joy of missing out), deep loving breathing, stretching and watching your own thoughts coming and going.

Sad News

Sadly we would like to inform the community that our fellow teacher, Anna Reilly, passed away early on the 7th August. Anna was an emergency teacher at Galilee for many years and always provided much fun and entertainment for our students and staff. She was a wonderful teacher and will be missed.

Please keep her family, friends and especially her children in your prayers.

We also ask you to keep Carlo Martello and his family in your prayers after the passing of Carlo's father late last month.  Carlo's father was a much loved figure in the Martello family and he will be missed.

Prep 2022 Transition

On Wednesday afternoon our Prep students commencing in 2022, took part in their first transition session. The students and our current Prep teachers virtually met and read Dear Zoo, then drew a picture of what they wish the zoo would send them.

We are hoping they can all attend onsite at Galilee for their next session on September 9.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Nikolas R (Year 3M) for being a 2021 finalist in the Edstart Achievement Awards Program.

Nikolas was a finalist in the Sport and Physical Wellbeing category and was provided an award grant of $250 towards their initiative.

Objective: To create different sports programs for kids to warm up and cool down and keep a diary of fresh food they eat in a week when they do sports to stay healthy and be aware of fresh food.

We look forward to discussing this idea with Nikolas.
