Comedy while in lockdown is always appreciated for everyone. This unit has fallen in a good spot to keep students and teachers in high spirits during this time. Over the lockdown period Year 9 Drama students have been pushing themselves to attend all zoom sessions for a chance to connect with each other. The students have also been working hard completing the weekly work that always has a dramatic twist.
Week 5 saw students create a narrative using 10 images of themselves, others or the world around them as part of physical theatre.
Riley Fittler
Week 6 brought us to mime, the task asked students to research a few famous mimes from all over the world. Heather Bassett presented a wonderful newspaper article on the Umbilical Brothers.
Week 7 was a mime challenge for students to use the skills learnt in week 6 to mime the lyrics to a song of their choice. See if you can guess Riley Fittler’s attempt:
Thank you to the wonderful parents who have seen their child running around the house doing scavenger hunts or laughing and yelling while playing interactive games with the rest of the class.

Mrs Cherie Stoessel
Our students have continued to engage well with online learning and I am so pleased with, and proud of, the attendance at zoom lessons and the standard of work teachers are receiving from students. Here are a few examples:
Year 8 Castle design tasks: students had to design a castle and justify their design choices based of effective defensive against an attacking army.
Year 9 Commerce
Students had to create a poster supporting the granting of full suffrage (voting rights) to women in the 1890s
Mathematics
Mr Peter McLeish (for Mr Mark Harris)
Mathematics - 'The only subject that counts'.
Year 7 students are learning how to calculate the area of a variety of two dimensional shapes.
We have been impressed with their engagement and enthusiasm during Zoom meetings. Well done!
Year 8 students are about ratios and how they can be applied to scale drawings. They have also adapted well to remote learning and appear to be coping well.
Year 9 (5.2) are just completing a unit of work on Surface Area and Volume and will soon be assessed on their understanding of this topic. Some of these students have done remarkably well, whereas others need to make immediate improvements in their Zoom attendance and overall work rate.
Year 10 Elective students are learning about factorising quadratics and hopefully working on their DESMOS designs.
Year 11 students are preparing for their Final examinations which will be held online. Their engagement during remote learning has been very good and I have every confidence they will provide an outstanding leadership group into next Term and beyond.
Year 12 students are recovering from their Trial examinations, for which they will soon be receiving feedback, and continuing to prepare for the real thing. Their determination and resilience is commendable.

Mrs Anne Healey
In my Year 7 Tech zoom I demonstrated pikelets with the students. Some of the students came prepared with the recipe and made the pikelets with me. It was loads of fun.

The Year 12 Textiles and Design class of 2021 can breathe a sigh of relief this week after submitting their major projects. It has been an epic last few weeks as they were thrown into disarray with the COVID-19 lockdown. We are so proud of you Tamika Brown, Lilli Johns, Georgia Luchich, Amity Lunn, Lily Roff and Tina Rudolph.
