John XXIII Rowing Club

House Regatta

On Saturday 7 August, our Years 8-12 rowers came together to celebrate all the efforts of our newest members of the John XXIII College rowing family, racing in House groups for the fourth Annual House Regatta.

The Year 8 students are at the beginning of their rowing journey’s, have spent the last two terms developing the fundamentals of the rowing stroke and an understanding of the fitness, dedication and commitment required to be a successful rower.

The 2021 House Regatta gave all our Year 8 students an opportunity to compete alongside our amazing group of experienced rowers. Racing over 200m, the Years 8-12 students showcased all they have learnt in an enjoyable atmosphere in front their families.

The day saw a great display of rowing by all Houses, with Ward winning the House Regatta Cup for 2021.  Congratulations to the Year 11 Quad that won the ‘Coaches Cup’ against the coaches.

Our rowing parents also had the opportunity to try rowing and see what it is like inside the boat!

Presentation Luncheon

Following the House Regatta, the John XXIII rowing community gathered at The Raffles Hotel to celebrate the achievements of the 2021 season.

Presentations at the Luncheon were:

  • Our Rowing Captains received their Badges
  • Year 8 Rowers received their Rowing Cap
  • Each rower received a rowing pin for 2021
  • Winning crews from the South West Head of the River received their medals.

It was wonderful to hear the speeches from the rowers expressing their gratitude for the commitment from their coaches throughout the 2021 season.  It was also an opportunity for the club to farewell our Head Coach, Steve Saunders. Steve has been in the position since 2018 and has brought a great deal of expertise and passion from his many years in the sport.  We thank Steve for his great contribution to the club and wish him the best for his future role at Aquinas College.
