Music and Drama Week
This week was the inaugural Music and Drama week where we celebrate all things Performing Arts. Led by Drama Captain Oscar Hegge and Music Captain Tomas Clifford, the week was filled with quiz’s, Theatre Sports, bands and musicals. Well done to all of the students who participated in the celebration.
The Performing Arts has a strong reputation at the College and has developed a great culture of students who are willing to participate in such drama events as Drama Nights, Open Days, Junior and Senior Theatre Sports, Years 8/9 plays and Years 10/11/12 Musicals. Every year talented students perform to the highest standard.
Examples of productions over the last 27 years include: Grease, Hairspray, Wicked, Hating Alison Ashley, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Addams Family, Beauty and the Beast, Singin’ in the Rain, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins, Hoods, Merry Go Round in the Sea, Little Shop of Horrors, The Wedding Singer, Anything Goes, Crazy for You, 42nd Street, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, West Side Story, Charlotte’s Web, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Bye Bye Birdie, Funny Girl, Sweet Charity, Pajama Game, Wonderful Town.
Some drama alumni who have gone onto careers in the Performing Arts, whether though the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts or through other means, include: Lucy Durack, Will O’Mahony, Tawni Bryant, Elijah Ungvary, Caitlin Cassidy, Holly Meegan, Daniel Berini, Hamish Johnston, Tristan Gorey, Jackson Used, Daniel Monks, Xavier Michelides, James Eaton, Tahlia Norrish and many more.
The Performing Arts encourages students to explore their emotions, expanding their imagination and helping them develop their own, unique voice. Each discipline, music and drama, engage a child's brain, body and emotions in different ways to encourage their confidence, empathy and find joy in self-expression. It’s more than simply role play and songs, it is about learning the many versatile and transferable life skills that matter.
Long live the Arts!
