Sustainability News

On John XXIII Day, as part of World Tree Day, a group of Year 12 volunteers planted a dozen bottlebrush trees on the western bank of the College. These dozen trees add to the 70 or so trees and shrubs that have been planted on the western bank since the beginning of Term 2.  We have planted out a combination of Banksias, Tuart trees, Marri trees and Acacias. The aim of planting these species is to help offset the carbon emissions of the College and also provide food for the local endangered Carnaby Cockatoos. Our ambition is to plant at least 100 trees and shrubs by the end of winter planting season. Thanks must go to all students and staff that have helped with this endeavour.

NAS Athletics

Congratulations to all our Years 7-10 students who have been selected to represent the College in the 2021 NAS Athletics Carnival. This day will provide students with the opportunity to improve their times from the Interhouse Carnival in a race setting and help secure their selection on the ACC Athletics team.

Our NAS Carnival will take place on Tuesday 24 August. Selected students will attend Period 1 on the day and then travel by bus to the HBF Athletics stadium.

Athletics Training

Thank you to all the students showing a passion for athletics and making it down to our morning training sessions. All students are welcome to attend the College morning training sessions to improve their athletics skills. Last year, John XXIII College achieved our team goal and stayed in the ACC A-Division Athletics Carnival. This year our aim is to do the same and hopefully some more!

Training takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:00-8:00am in the lead up to the ACC A Division Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 15 September.

WA Volleyball Schools Cup

We have four senior volleyball teams who will compete in the 2021 WA Volleyball Schools Cup. With over 260 teams this is set to be the biggest WA volleyball competition to date!

All four of our teams have been training extremely hard over the past nine weeks and are looking in fine form. Thank you to Miss Jessica Pillera, Mr Justin Mann and Miss Georgia O’Driscoll for all their time and assistance coaching our teams this year.

Good luck to all teams and coaches for the big day next Friday 20 August!

Thank you to all students for being so prompt and efficient for our sports photos this week.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Emily Elkington (Year 11) who was selected to represent John XXIII in the ACC All Stars AFL Team. Last Friday the All Stars team played a game against a combined School Sport WA and IGSSA team and were victorious on the day. Emily played a fantastic game and will be one to watch for the future.
