Expert commentary
When Peter Bol finished fourth in the 800 metres Olympic final last week, the nation rejoiced on a brilliant athletic performance. Bol’s personal story was captivating, and he gave himself every opportunity to win. The expert post-race analysis by former athlete Tamsyn Manou (Lewis) provided great insight into the tactics of the race.
Whether it was Tamsyn Manou at the athletics, Ian Thorpe at the swimming or Andrew Gaze with basketball, the commentary by former athletes was knowledgeable and engaging. They celebrated good performances irrespective of whether the athlete finished on the podium. The commentary was invariably professional.
‘Catch the students being good!’ is a well-used phrase in education. The intention of teachers is to have a mindset that notices what is going well before addressing any concerns. It is amazing how often a class responds to the mood of the teacher and creates an atmosphere reflective of the teacher’s ‘commentary’.
Last Friday’s John XXIII Day celebrations provided an opportunity for all in our community to enjoy each other’s company. Before our Opening Mass, I mentioned that 15 million of our fellow Australian were in lockdown, so it was a privilege to pray and celebrate this special occasion together. Primary and Secondary students joined together in prayer and then had separate celebrations of all things JTC!
The commentary through our various Parent Groups at the College is invariably positive as well. We have an engaged parent body keen to support their children in their endeavours. We have a discerning parent community with high expectations enhancing the reputation of our College.
That reputation is reflected in an enrolment application we received this week. The child is 5 weeks old, and the family has applied for a place in Year 7 2034.
