Live Love Learn

Dear Families,

Well done to our school community for celebrating Book Week by joining Google Meets today dressed as their favourite book character. There were so many great costumes. It is pleasing to see that our children’s enthusiasm for reading is so strong and it really does open them up to old worlds, new worlds and other worlds.

Thank you to the staff for immersing themselves in the enjoyment of books and getting dressed as their favourite book characters too. It was also great to see so many people at our two assemblies today to help celebrate our love of literature.

We will endeavour to find solutions so we can be more interactive during Google Meet assemblies.

We would like to thank Miss Cox, our Literacy Leader, for organising fantastic events this week such as the Book Week performance on Tuesday afternoon, the Illustrator Incursion today, our Book Week Assembly today and the writing competition that many students participated in.

We would also like to thank everyone within our community for continuing to support student learning through our Remote Learning Program. The enthusiasm of students, dedication of teachers and flexibility of parents has meant we have had another great week of Remote Learning at Galilee.

NAPLAN

This week NAPLAN has been the focus of media attention due to the results from Victorian students. We are yet to get access to the results of our students at Galilee but we are expecting them some time next week. We will distribute the results to families with students in Years 3 & 5 as soon as possible.

Please be aware that NAPLAN results are one type of assessment on a given day. Teachers better utilise school assessments to gauge the progress of students.

Writing and Drawing

By combining writing down the main ideas of what your teacher says and drawing diagrams to organise them, you will use both sides of your brain to improve how you learn. Writing alone or drawing alone is not enough.

Drawing, in that way, is a stepping stone for writing, a chance for you to broadly define your ideas through pictures before defining your ideas through the much more nuanced lens of words. When you write and draw in tandem, it helps to teach you the connection between images, words, and letters.

Book Week Festivities

On our website you can listen and watch some staff members reading this year's Book Week books. Thanks for reading Miss Fahy, Mrs Latto, Mrs Burns, Paul and Mr Millar, great job!

Watch here now.

Some of our students enjoyed dressing up today.
