Spotlight On . . .

Irene was born in Melbourne, and grew up by the beach in Mentone.

Growing up, Irene spent most of her time at the local park riding her bike, feeding the ducks, climbing trees, playing football and following her big brother around. Irene comes from a Greek family, and went to Oakleigh Grammar where she completed prep to Year 12. Her favourite subjects at school were Health, PE and Psychology which started her journey towards a career in Health Sciences and Teaching.

Irene’s other interests are playing tennis, reading, travelling and cooking.

Some of her most treasured moments are with her Grandma learning the family recipes. Growing up in a Greek family, food and music was a way of life.

Irene has been fortunate enough to travel all around Europe and Japan. Some of her favourite memories include riding in a gondola in Venice, seeing the Swiss Alps in Switzerland and the cherry blossoms in Japan. Although she has been lucky enough to travel overseas some of her most treasured trips have been within Australia. One in particular was her visit to Darwin where she got to explore Litchfield National Park with Miss Canavan.

Irene’s first job was at McDonald’s where she had lots of fun making coffee in the cafe and hosting children's birthday parties. During her studies she worked at a jewellery store and then at a community health centre. Out of all her jobs being a teacher has been her absolute favourite! Irene has been teaching at Syndal South Primary for 4 years and has loved every minute.
