Grade 6 Book Week Incursion

Grade 6 Book Week Incursion with Bernard Caleo.

What an absolute treat for the Grade 6 students in Book Week to be visited by Author, Illustrator and all-round talented performer Bernard Caleo. So many practical tips to improve our comic drawing. He had us captivated from start to finish.

Some of the things we took away from the session: 

• Write your text before drawing the speech bubble.
• Use a variety of different shaped windows and draw the gutters for them that have some character.
• Wobbly lines are okay!
• Shadows and horizon lines are simple, but help communicate so much about the space.
• Vary the proximity of the action to the view (close-up, mid shots and those from a distance).
• Think about motion and emotion.
