Grade 6 Writing: Poems
Poems using the literary device of an extended metaphor by 6GB:
Rose’s Eyes
Rose’s eyes are the sea.
On sunny days the ocean shines bright blue.
Salt water streams into shore.
Waves crash constantly against the rocks.
The tide gets bigger and smaller.
Streams of light from the sun bounce off the moving water.
By Rose Barrot
SADNESS
Sadness is a dark cloud in the sky,
Blocking out the sun and the light,
Following you everywhere no matter how much you fight,
However bad your plight, it will float away into the night,
In the morning the light will return,
When the dark is gone, everything will be much brighter.
By Krishna Crammond
Emotions
Emotions are a bow and arrow.
Arrows need bows to operate.
Arrows can be set off by a trigger.
Control is shown when the arrow hits the bullseye.
When the arrow misses everything is out of control.
To hit a bullseye practice is needed.
By Lola Day
Happiness
Happiness is a sunny day
The sun gives out its warmth for free
Colourful flowers come alive when the sun shines
The sun’s light lead people into gardens
No need to be wrapped up in scarves and jumpers
It is the summer holidays and the sun is out
By Matthew Hodgers
Life
Life is a roller coaster ride
You start at the bottom ready to ride the roller coaster
Oh no the ride goes down really fast
Ahhh that’s better you’re back up the top
Suddenly you go through a gloomy dark tunnel
Then back out to the sunshine
All too quickly you’re at the end of the ride.

Life
Life is sand in an hourglass.
The sand can fall fast
Or it can fall slowly
Though most of the time it falls at an even pace
Whatever the sand does the hourglass is always beautiful
The sand will run out one day
So, make the most of the time that you have.

Life
Life is a lift.
Your lift starts at the bottom.
You can go up really fast,
But then you could be going down one second later.
You can’t always stay at the top.
There are times when you must go down.
The lift stops and people get off,
But other people can come on.
Eventually everyone will get off the lift.
By Kitty Kelly
Life
Life is the sun.
The sun shines brightly in the sky and sometimes the sun gets covered by clouds.
The sun moves fast across the sky and sometimes it moves slowly.
The sun has its prettiest moments at sunset and sunrise,
Casting pink, orange and yellow colours across the clouds
You just have to pause and enjoy these moments.

The stadium.
The stadium is a group of wild animals.
Animals roar as they look at their prey being taken to other animals.
Hyenas dig their mouths into hot prey and stuff dribbles out.
The meerkats scramble to the rocks to watch the battle between the tiger and the lion.
The animals cry as the rooster makes its final call.
The herds of animals start heading back out to the savanna desert when the day is over.

Life
Life is water.
As an iceberg, it melts slowly away.
This resource must be used to its fullest.
It can become a wave that dips and grows with every breath of change.
Fuelling an ecosystem, we must respect it.
It is precious and is needed for all new life.
By Luca Rhodes
JOY
Joy is the sun.
Every day the sun gives warmth.
Its light brightens up the day.
The sun is full of energy.
When the sun is out the beach seems alive.
The sun rotates around the earth.
By Darcy Sloane-Harris
Sadness
Sadness is stormy clouds in the sky.
Clouds are such a dull miserable grey.
Water starts to drizzle down from beneath the clouds.
You hear intense thunder cracking, you see lightning striking the ground.
The clouds start to clump together.
However, these clouds’ gloomy dark colour will gradually start to fade away.
By Sophia Watson
Trust
Trust is a flower.
Flowers are fragile and break easily.
After the flower petals start to fall off, the flower does not have long left.
It might take a long time or it might take a short time but it will always rebloom.
If the flower has lots of pollen, the bees and insects will come along.
The more sun the flower has, the bigger it will grow.

Life
Life is a game.
No one can win it,
Make the right moves and you will succeed,
Form alliances to help each other,
Make the most of it, take chances,
This game is precious, don't ruin it.
By Greta Bursill
Joy
Joy is a puppy dog
Running with other dogs in the park
Rolling in the grass
Playing his favourite game when chasing a ball
He does tricks to receive a treat
After all this he lies on his bed and sleeps
By Lola Rebiere
Trust
Trust is a lock and key
A lock can be used to protect precious things
The lock will keep strangers out
The key can be used to open the lock
You can hide the key away
If you leave a lock too long it will rust and break open
By Devonte Lim
