CAREERS
SEPTEMBER REPORT
Another busy term in the Careers Department!
Introducing Tuesday ‘Job Shop’ sessions
I’m frequently asked by students for help with job search techniques and to provide feedback on job application documents. I’ve decided to have a regular time to address these needs each week.
From Term Four, students who are old enough to get a job, can register to attend a session on Tuesday mornings before school from 8:15am - 8:45am.
During remote learning, this will be via Google Meets with up to 10 students.
The format of the session will be a quick 10 minute presentation on the topic of the week and then students will have time to ask specific questions or receive feedback on their documents.
Come prepared to ask questions in the group!
Session times and topics are as follows:
5 October: What to look for in a job advertisement
12 October: Job Search - where to find work?
19 October: Resume writing Tips and Hints
26 October: How to write a cover letter
2 November: Getting ready for interviews
9 November: Getting ready for interviews - STAR technique
16 November: Introducing yourself to future employers - ‘elevator pitch”
23 November: Resume Writing - addressing ‘key selection criteria’
30 November: Resume Writing - active words
7 December: Preparing for interviews

Year 9
Our year 9 students are currently participating in the Morrisby/My Career Insights program. Most students have started the quizzes with the aim that they will all be completed by the end of the term.
Students will be invited to attend a one to one interview with a careers practitioner to ‘unpack’ their results in Term Four.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend this session. More details on the interviews will be announced in Term Four.
We are still working with the local LLEN and hope that students will still get the opportunity to attend their Real Industry Job Interview (RIJI) before the end of the year. The uncertainty is frustrating, but there is real commitment to getting this done for our year 9 students.
Year 11
Just a quick ‘heads up’ to students in year 11…
You will receive a short survey in Term Four asking about your plans for 2023!
This is a quick way for me to learn a little bit more about you, your career needs and interests. The survey will help me to plan relevant activities such as potential guest speakers/visits for 2022. It will be a google form with about 8-10 questions.
Year 12
It’s been a joy to meet with year 12 students over the last few weeks to provide support for VTAC processes and planning for 2022.
Please be reminded that there are deadlines approaching for those who wish to apply for tertiary study (TAFE or university) in 2022.
30 September: VTAC account payment
A one-off application fee is required.
This fee is $42 if paid by 30 September. After this date, the fee increases to $122 until November.
To pay the fee, login to your VTAC account and list one preference in the course preferences section. This will enable the link to the payment process.
8 October: SEAS applications
This is the final deadline for SEAS applications.
All students are recommended to complete the questions about remote learning under SEAS category 4 and also to select category 1.
Appointments are available in Term Four if students wish to discuss their plans for 2022. Go to https://www.collingwoodcareers.com.au/appointment-booking to make a time.
Over the holidays if you require assistance with establishing accounts, please contact VTAC directly on 9926 1020.
2022 Planning
I’ve started planning the 2022 Careers program. What would you like to see included in the Collingwood College Careers program?
Feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions: rhondac@collingwood.vic.edu.au
Have a safe and relaxing break. Looking forward to career activities in Term Four.
