Trinity Teams Excel in Regional Championships

Senior Football

On Monday, August 16 the Senior Football Team headed to Stawell to take part in the regional stage of the School Sport Victoria competition.

On arriving at Central Park (home of the Stawell Gift) we were informed that Cobden Technical school were unable to make the trip so the re-fixturing gave us about 10 minutes to be ready for our first game against Marian College.

From the start of the game the midfield combination of Aussie Harwood, Mitchell Thornton, Harry Carmody and Luke Fish set the tone for the entire day.

Their attack on the football was ferocious and they provided key forwards Josh Sanders, Elijah Reid and Jackson Learey with plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Whatever the key position players were unable to mark was quickly taken advantage of by the smaller forwards, particularly Rani Jamieson and Trent Blake.

Trinity had dominant players all over the ground in both games and came away from the day undefeated. Both games were won comfortably.

In game 1 the score was Trinity 7 goals 8 to Marian College no score, and in game 2 it was Trinity 9 goals 3 to Mount Clear College 1 point. It was a tremendous team effort. Elijah Reid ended up kicking 8 goals for the day, the entire backline performed extremely well to only allow a total of 1 point to be scored against us in two games and the midfield was dominant all day.

I would like to thank and congratulate all the players for their efforts and behaviour on the day. All players were very humble in victory and the games were played with great sportsmanship.

Intermediate Football

Our intermediate boys footy team travelled to Stawell to compete in the SSV GW region championship.

Our first game was against a strong Emmanuel line up where we went down 7.8.50 to 1.1.7 (Riley Westlake goal kicker). Our second game was another loss to Horsham College 4.6.30 to 2.3.15 (Riley Westlake and George Melville goals).

In game three we clicked into gear and finished our good plays against Ballarat High School and won 5.4.34 to 1.2.8 (Tobyn Murray, Jack Skinner, Jordy Langdon, Henry McGuane, Harry Brien goal kickers).

The effort and teamwork of our group was great all day and some of our better performers included Henry Melville and his creative skills, Jack Skinner’s aggressiveness in the contest created many forward thrusts, Micah Robb and Tobyn Murray racked up contested possessions in the midfield and Toby Monaco laid many strong tackles and used his explosiveness to beat all his opponents over the day.

Intermediate and Senior Coastal Basketball

After 18 months of no school sport we were finally able to participate in the Coastal Division basketball competition.

Trinity was able to field 3 teams – senior boys, intermediate boys and intermediate girls. All teams played against Colac Secondary College, with Lorne and Apollo Bay unable to field teams on the day.

Our senior boys team consisted of Harry Carmody, Emmett Keem, Jaxon Mallon, Josh Garner, Mitch Thornton, Cam Hall and Ryley Walker. Our intermediate boys team consisted of Fraser Holt, Micah Robb, Henry Melville, Will McLachlan, Angus Permezel, George Melville, Brady Hall, Tobyn Murray and Wylie Bamford. Our intermediate girls team consisted of Remy Duynhoven, Maggie Hart, Charlotte Black, Abby Hay, Chloe Hay, Sienna Mallon, Briea McLachlan, Darcy Permezel, Millie Sibley and Zara Walker.

All games were played in good spirit. Our Trinity teams combined well and had convincing wins in all sections. They will now travel to Ballarat (date yet to be confirmed) to participate in the Greater Western Championships. Good luck to all teams.

Senior Girls Coastal and Greater Western Netball and Intermediate Coastal Division

Our netballers were also back on the court, which was great to see. There was a real buzz amongst all the girls from all teams, lots of laughs and smiles on every face.

The Senior Coastal Competition was played between Trinity and CSC. The team consisted of Ava Coulahan, Grace Garner, Sophie Morrissy, Ebony Miraglia, Lulu Riches, Georgia Grist, Morgan Brewer, Layla Holt, Chalise Van Eekelen, Molly McCrae and Savannah Jenkins.

Trinity seniors won their hit out and went on to compete in the Greater Western Championships in Ballarat on Monday the 16th of August. The girls won all their games, although the first game was definitely the most nerve racking for all of us on the bench. We were 1 goal down at the half time break against Ballarat High School in our first game, and this went to 3 goals down 3 minutes into the last half. We had to win all games to go through and were playing the top team first up.

To our girls' credit they fought very hard and were able to make some amazing intercepts, combined with great ball movement and goaling accuracy to put us back in the lead. We eventually came out winners by 5 goals.

We then played Mercy Regional College and were 2 goals up at half time and went on to win by 7. The last game was against Holy Trinity Lutheran College which the girls won convincingly after a shaky start.

Grace Garner and Ava Coulahan combined well in defence all day, Ebony Miraglia ran the centre and was excellent in attack and defence and Lulu Riches and Georgia Grist combined well in the goal circle.

At the Intermediate Coastal division we had 2 Trinity teams who played against Apollo Bay, Lorne and CSC 10 and 9. Our two Trinity teams played very well all day and won all of their games.

The last game of the day was played between the Trinity Blue team against the Trinity Red team to determine who went through to the Greater Western Championships.

It was a very close tussle between the two teams with a lot of great passages of play from both teams. The Red team claimed victory in the end and will participate in the GW championships in Ballarat today.

Trinity Red consisted of Chloe Hay, Darcy Permezel, Aanliya Cheeron Benoy, Rach Darwin, Leah Perkins, Isobel Scott, Abby Hay, Briea McLachlan, Maggie Hart, Remy Duynhoven and Zara Walter.

Trinity Red consisted of Indy Holland, Alexsis Phillips, Mackenzie Milverton, Tilly O’Brien, Kaiti Chappell, Sienna Mallon, Tara Moloney, Lily Gibson and Sophie Richardson.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank our fabulous umpires, as without them we would not be able to play in these competitions.

Jessica Smith and Ella Walter umpired the junior, inter and senior girls at Coastal Division and the Inter girls at Greater Western. Abby Hay and Zara Walker umpired the Junior girls at Coastal and the Senior girls at Greater Western, and Lily Gibson umpired the junior girls at Coastal. Great job girls.

Year 7 and 8 Girls Coastal Division Netball

It was a milestone day for our year 7 and 8 netballers as it was the first time they were able to represent Trinity in netball.

It has been a long time coming for our year 8’s, who did not get to take the court in 2020. It was yet another great day out for Trinity with our 2 year 7 teams and 2 year 8 teams having a very successful day. We played against Apollo Bay and CSC. Lorne, unfortunately, were unable to field any teams on the day.

The last official games of the day were played between the Trinity 8 Blue team and the Trinity 8 Red team and the Trinity 7 Blue team and the Trinity 7 Red team, to determine who went through to the Greater Western Championships.

Once again the games were very competitive. We are very lucky to have so many talented sports people at Trinity, which ensured that our games were very hard fought, with the lead changing several times, especially in the year 7 tussle. The Red 8 team and the Red 7 team both eventually claimed victory and will now go on to participate in the Greater Western Championships in Ballarat on Monday the 23rd of August.

The Year 8 Red Team consisted of Emme Elborough, Phoebe Lockhart, Sienna Milverton, Olivia Scott, Taya Scott, Olivia Roberts, Lily Fountain, Lily King, Evie Vickers and Ellinor Borrack (Injured). The Year 8 Blue Team consisted of Akout Dau, Nyamal Makuey, Ciara Downard, Charlie Fraser, Isabelle Neal, Isabelle Robertson, Kate Slingsby, Anna Testa, Jaialla Turner and Emma Wilkeson (absent).

The Year 7 Red Team consisted of Mia Compton, Tilly Geue, Tess Harris, Poppy Holland, Remy Holt, Maisie McNaughton, Georgia Oats, Rylee Reid, Mia Skinner and Eliza Speirs. The Year 7 Blue Team Consisted of Neve Brewer, Maizee Clarke, Mathilde Dare, Georgia Egan, Keely McEwan, Addison Phillips, Cam Smith, Tily Miraglia, Tilly Paatsch and Tyarna Westlake.

Well done girls and best of luck in Ballarat.

Ben Rongdit kicked 4 goals, Tully Borgia and Xavier Bubica-Smith each kicked 2 goals and Gus Bennett, Angus McNaughton, Gus Uytdehaag, Jack Fish, Oliver Daffy and Charlie Seuren kicked one goal each.

The boys team have now qualified for the SSV Greater Western Division Final in Stawell this week. We look forward to seeing how they progress - well done lads.

The Year 7 Coastal division competition saw Apollo Bay join forces with Lavers Hill to play in a three-way tournament with Trinity and CSC.

The games were played in great spirits at the CSC Oval. Year 12 students Lochlan Hart and Harry Carmody provided some inspiration and assistance on the day.

The Trinity boys played extremely well on the day to qualify for the Greater Western Division Final also.

Mr. Tomkins and Mr. Paddick were very thankful and proud of the boys’ behaviour and effort.
