Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

This week we spare a thought for all the Melbourne students and families as they face the prospect of additional lockdown rules and an extended period of time learning remotely. We all pray that the Victorian situation settles down quickly so that life for us all can resume some level of normality.

Here at Trinity, we were buoyed by the news that we could once again have an audience for musical productions. At this stage we will be able to have a socially distanced audience of 100 at each performance of 'We Will Rock You' during the last week of this term.

We are aware that demand for each show will and already has exceeded this capacity, however, with almost four weeks to go there is some possibility that this maximum audience size will be increased by show time.

If this is not the case we will be forced to prioritise family members of the cast and crew and we will work out the best and fairest way to do this in the next couple of weeks.

Our ski trip is scheduled to depart this Sunday and the Year 10 Top End Tour leaves in the final week of term. At the moment both of these trips are still taking place although we are keeping an eye on the current COVID situation in Victoria and in the Northern Territory.

The one event that still has a lot of uncertainty around it is the GAT (General Achievement Test). We know it will definitely not take place until after September 2 and we suspect that as soon as the Melbourne lockdown ends it will be scheduled very quickly. We will keep all students and families up to date as soon as information is provided.

I would like to congratulate all the students who have been involved in school sporting competitions over the last couple of weeks. There has been basketball, netball and football at all year levels taking place here in Colac as well as in Ballarat and Stawell.

Not only have the teams performed well, but all students have also represented Trinity College with distinction. The students have shown modesty and respect at all times and their behaviour has been exemplary.

The current refurbishment of our Mercy and Tuck wings is progressing well. There have been some small holdups due to the unavailability of materials, however, we are on track to have the works completed by the end of this term or early term 4.

The new facilities will provide much needed space for our Learning Diversity and Wellbeing areas and will also provide additional classrooms so that all year level groups can be in the same area.
