Homed not Homeless

Supporting the most vulnerable in Colac Otway Shire

VCAL Year 11 students are joining the campaign with Coles and BCYF (Barwon Child Youth and Family) to collect non-perishable and hygiene products - items needed when moving into emergency transitional housing.

Unfortunately Colac Otway Shire was reported to have the highest rate of homelessness in Victoria, a dramatic rise in youth homelessness and in families needing greater support due to family violence.

Authorities report more people are sleeping rough in Colac, sleeping in public facilities like toilet blocks, as well as in alleys and cars. This increased by 30% in 2020. Homelessness in Colac Otway Shire often takes the form of transient living, like couch surfing or sleeping in cars.

VCAL Year 11 students will collect donated goods from the bin at Coles, Colac (image above) every week, sort, bag items and return them to BCYF in Bromfield Street to be distributed to those needing support in very tough times.

If you are able to, please donate to this worthwhile cause and help those most in need within Colac Otway Shire.
