School News from our Wonderful Students
Over the past couple of weeks, our Galilee community has been up to a lot. The last week was full of smiles, giggles and jokes. We had the year five parents host the 3 to 6 movie night, we all cosied up in our pyjamas, year fives did an interactive play in assembly, ice creams were licked on Italian day and lots of hoops were swished in the year 3 and 4 hoop time.
There were pounding footsteps as the year 3 and 4s scrambled their way to MSAC to participate in hoop time, a competitive inter-school basketball tournament last Thursday. The 3s and 4s were split into teams based on gender and skills. There was an All-Star Girls team, an All-Star Boys Team and 6 mixed gender teams. Sadly the girls did not make it further than the elimination rounds but the boys pushed on to make it to the grand finals but sadly lost to St Mary’s. It was a lively day that all students involved loved.
Last Friday the whole school cosied up in their pyjamas to raise money for our school library. Here's what a couple of preps had to say: Jameson -“I loved bringing my soft toys to school to show my friends”. Kayla and Nyla - “We both loved sharing stories and reading books.”
As you can tell, all of our students loved the opportunity to wear their pyjamas to school and it was a very successful fundraiser raising exactly $1177 dollars for us to buy new books for our library.
At the assembly, the year fives presented about our big wide universe. 5D performed a play about the solar system, there were lots of laughs and the planets were represented by people holding size-appropriate balls and hula hoops. Galileo threw tennis balls at Saturn saying “Hey Saturn you have four more moons" The crowd roared with laughter. 5A also did an experiment with vinegar and bi-carb soda when they put the lighter in the tub that had vinegar and bi-carb soda in it, the lighter kept extinguishing because the vinegar and bi-carb soda turned into co2 (carbon dioxide). I wonder if you can work out why the flames kept going out?
At precisely 6:30 the stadium was dead quiet because Space Jam was just beginning at the 3-6 movie night hosted by the year 5 parent volunteers. It was an enjoyable night filled with smiles and snacks. Here’s a student review, by Sierra in 5D- “I really enjoyed it because I had the opportunity to lounge around and the food was delicious. I wish it would happen again because it was an experience no one should miss.” Overall it was a night all the students will remember for a long time.
On Wednesday the 2nd we all dressed up in Italian colours to celebrate our favourite day, Italian day! The day was full of ice cream licking, pizza munching and smiles all around. There were incursions, parades, crafts, buddy activities, cooking and of course pizza and gelato. Here’s a highlight from one of the year four students: Jessica - One of my favourite activities were the buddy races and the soap sculptures. So the buddy activity was being tied to your buddy while bringing a full glass of water to the other side of the basketball court and for the soap sculptures, we used a wooden knife to carve soap into a design or shape of your choice. As you can tell this is one of the students' favourite days of the year.
The last couple of weeks were full of excitement and events that the students loved. There were laughs, jokes and smiles all around and we hope that in the future we will be able to enjoy experiences just as engaging and appealing.

Grandparents Day at Galilee
Hoop Time Basketball
In Week 2 our Grade 5 and 6’s head down the road to MSAC (MelbourneSports and Aquatic Centre) to play in our Senior Dendy Hoop Time Competition. With lots of excitement and experience, the teams were raring to go and hopefully bring home some silverware. Most teams played 3 games with some playing 4, plus the finals, which is a credit to the students and coaches for their commitment. We had a mixture of results with some games being one-sided blowouts, buzzer beaters (ask Flynn - 6P, he’ll tell you), heartbreaking losses at and after the siren and some intense games with lots of shouting but we all came home with smiles and red faces. We were fortunate through some great coaching, and a strategic game plan and the students buy in to bring home some silverware with our Future Stars 1 team taking out their division. An amazing effort!
Week 3 saw our 3’s and 4’s head over to MSAC to play in our Junior DendyHoop Time competition. 76 excited students ready to compete against all other schools and make some memories they’ll talk about for decades to come. The day was more spread out than the Senior Day with fewer games played per team but still as much exhaustion expended. Another terrific day for the students and again we were able to bring home some silverware with our Galilee Giants taking out the winners of the Future Stars division. Well done to them! We did have 2 other teams make finals this day; our Galilee Giants falling short at the semi’s and our All-Star boys team falling just short by 3 points in the Grand Final.
Thank you to all the teachers, and parents both those who helped and also to those who supported throughout the 2 days. It was wonderful.
Principals Day
Today we celebrated Principal’s Day. Principals’ Day is about recognising the tireless efforts of principals and deputy principals in achieving excellence in education. It is an opportunity to say thank you. The leadership provided by our Principal and Deputy Principals, in our school and community, not only ensures the best outcomes for our students and their families but provides teachers and staff safe and supportive work environments. The diligence and commitment to education given is honourable and indispensable. Thank you for your commitment to education, and for playing a role in shaping a brighter future for learners and teachers in our community.
Thank you - Mr Simon Millar, Mrs Amy Burns and Mr Carlo Martello.
