From the Principal
Dear Families,
Who could believe we are almost half way through Term 3. The first half of this term has been extremely busy with students involved in a range of on-site and off-site activities and many whole school events.
We would like to thank our incredible community for their continued support with the large range of opportunities organised for students this term. We understand the extra effort that goes into organising a costume or special uniform. We would like to thank you for everything that you do at home to support our students at school.
These past two weeks have been busy and the next two weeks coming up look like they will be equally busy and exciting. Please read through each page of the newsletter to find out about activities that have been happening over the past two weeks and events that we have coming up, such as the parent night Soiree by the Sea that will be held at Encore in St. Kilda on Saturday 12th August.
Welcome Back Simon.
This week we welcomed Simon back to school. As most of you will know, Simon has been on extended leave following a bike accident and major back surgery in May. It was wonderful to have him back onsite. He was greeted with many excited faces from students, parents and staff; happy to see him back onsite. Simon will be joining us part time for the next few weeks, slowly working up to returning full time.
Week 5 Wellbeing Week
Next week at Galilee is Wellbeing Week. Each term we dedicate one week per term to focus on the wellbeing of our students. Wellbeing Week is on top of our ongoing Wellbeing Program that operates within each classroom, each week, where students participate in Wellbeing learning opportunities.
Next Week at Galilee we are focusing on “All Together Now”. Students will participate in activities, discussion and tasks about the importance of inclusion and diversity. Students will be looking at the way we treat others and the language we use to ensure that we are not marginalising anyone or using language that offends or degrades others. We are proud of our multicultural community at Galilee and want to use this week as a springboard to continue class discussion and activities focused on ensuring students at Galilee are aware of how to respectfully treat others and ensure that everyone in our community feels safe, supported and included. Students will not recieve homework in Week 5.
2024 Prep Transition
Next week we will welcome our 2024 Prep cohort to their first transition session. This year we have received a record number of applications for students to attend Galilee. In Term 1 and 2 we spent time meeting each family and each 2024 Prep student. It was a delight getting to know our new students and meeting their families. In 2024 we are welcoming over 25 new families to our community and over 25 siblings from existing families. We are very excited to meet our 2024 Prep cohort this week as they come into school for their first transition session.
St. Mary's College Visit
This week we welcomed Michael, Principal of St. Mary's College in East St. Kilda. Michael toured our building, met with staff and spent some time with our school captains. It was lovely to hear Michael talk about Galilee graduates who have gone onto St. Mary's and are doing very well.
