From the Prep Classrooms

The Preps had their first visit from Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) last Monday. We spoke about what number to call in an emergency (000), ensure to have a working smoke alarm, to plan a safe meeting place with our families in case of a fire and if there's smoke in the building to 'crawl down low and go, go, go!'. Here are a few snaps from the visit!

Today we were so lucky to have our second visit from Fire Rescue Victoria where the students got to learn more about the truck and equipment. We even got a go at the hose! We all had the best fun!

From the Year 3 Classrooms

STEM

Some students last week were lucky enough to have an explore and develop their coding skills when using Lego WeDos and Bee Bots. Students had to follow instructions to build their robots and then program them to move and flash using the iPad. Similarly, students created different pathways with their Bee Bots and some even made mazes for their BeeBots to move through. All students were thoroughly engage and demonstrated some excellent problem solving skills during the session.

Interschool Sport Netball News

Mixed Netball

On Friday 14th July, our Mixed Netball team faced off against Our Lady of Perpetual Hope PS in the district playoff. Our mixed team had won every game during the round robin season, and were fired up for the playoff game. Our Lady of Perpetual hope proved to be a tough opponent, and the game was tightly fought from start to finish. Unfortunately, despite playing their hearts out, our mixed team ended up losing by 3 goals in over time. We are so proud of the efforts of every single player in the team. We had many students who had never played netball before, so to make it all the way to the district play offs was an amazing effort. Well done, Mixed Team!

Girls Netball

On Friday 14th July, our Girls Netball team also participated in the district play offs. They too had won all of their round robin games, and their winning streak continued, beating Tintern Grammar by over 20 goals. The following Friday, 21st July, the girls participated in the the division playoff at The Nets in Heathmont. The girls played two games on the day, giving both their absolute best efforts. They ended up winning one game, and losing the other. All players showed wonderful determination on the day and brilliant sportsmanship. We are very proud of them for never giving up, even when things got tough, and representing the school so well. Well done, Girls team!

Year 5 & 6

In weeks 5 and 6, all Grade 5/6 students will be participating in two ‘Talk Money’ seminars run by the Ecstra Foundation. Talk Money with Ecstra Foundation is designed to help Australian students learn money lessons for life, to be confident talking about money and to make informed financial decisions. The sessions have been developed by education experts in collaboration with a financial education advisory group, providing diverse experiences, insights and feedback. The workshops and resources are evidence based and aligned to the Australian Curriculum and the National Consumer and Financial Literacy Framework. Students will attend two 1 hour sessions, the first on the 8th August, and the second in the following week, on the 17th August. They will attend in their individual classes and there is no cost to families. More information about these sessions can be found on the Talk Money website: https://talkmoney.org.au/
