Achilles Community Report

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Achilles teachers would like to congratulate all of the students on a wonderful excursion to the Werribee Zoo. We would like to thank all families for their ongoing support with the student’s learning.

Reading

During reading this month, students have been diligently engaging in reading activities where they focus on finding facts within non-fiction texts centred around animals. Throughout their learning journey, students have demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and curiosity, immersing themselves in the captivating world of wildlife. As they delve into these informative texts, students eagerly uncover fascinating details about various animal species, their behaviours, habitats, and adaptations. With each turn of the page, they sharpen their research skills and critical thinking abilities, grasping the importance of extracting accurate information from reliable sources. Through this educational exploration, students not only expand their knowledge about the animal kingdom but also cultivate a deeper appreciation for the wonders of nature that surround us.

Writing

Students have enthusiastically worked on their writing skills, particularly when it comes to creating fact files and information reports. One of their recent topics was about kangaroos, the students' curiosity bloomed as they learned more about these incredible creatures. In their fact file about kangaroos, they've gathered fascinating details about these unique animals. Students have carefully organised their information, presenting it in a way that is easy to understand and engaging to read.

Maths

Students have been actively engaged in a fascinating journey of data collection and graph creation, exploring the wonderful world of numbers and information representation. With curiosity and dedication, they have diligently gathered data from conducting surveys. Students have transformed the data into visually appealing and informative graphs, including bar graphs and pictographs. Students have also explored interpreting a range of different graphs, stating whether something was the most/least popular.

Inquiry

In this month we have been looking at living and nonliving things and moving into habitats and classifying animals. This led to our excursion to Werribee zoo where we looked at all the animals who live in Africa and their habitats. We went on the Safari bus and had the opportunity to look at Zebras, Rhinos Antelope and many more. This will further our learning into why these animals need to live in these habitats and how they might adapt.

SEL

Students have actively engaged in developing coping strategies to manage their emotions effectively. Understanding the importance of our feelings have helped students embark on a journey of self-awareness and growth. They recognise that emotions can impact their overall performance and interpersonal relationships. Through various means, such as mindfulness practices, seeking teacher support, and engaging in creative outlets like art or music, they have learned to identify, process, and regulate their emotions. By adopting these coping strategies, students have not only experienced enhanced emotional resilience but also found themselves better equipped to handle the challenges that come their way.
