Luna Community Report

Term 3, 2023

Dear Families,

Welcome back from the holidays! We hope you had a fantastic break and are ready for an exciting Term 3. We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and dedication of our students as we dive into new learning experiences. It was heartwarming to witness the strong support of our families during the recent Parent-Teacher interviews. Thank you for being actively involved in your child's education; it makes a significant difference in their progress.

Reading

In the realm of reading, we have been focusing on Information Reports. Our young learners have been exploring the art of finding relevant information and answering various types of questions, such as "right there" questions and "think and search" questions. Our reading materials have been quite diverse, covering topics like crocodiles, the wet and dry seasons of Kakadu, and fascinating insights into the lives of penguins.

Writing

Writing has been an exciting journey for our students as they have been honing their skills in finding information from both visual and written texts. They have been encouraged to take notes in dot points, which fosters effective organisation and comprehension. One of the highlights has been understanding the structure of an information report, which helps them craft well-structured and engaging pieces of writing. The students have been conducting research on Australian animals using iPads and utilising graphic organisers to record their findings.

Maths

Our mathematical explorations have centered around concepts of equal groups, sharing, multiplication, and division. The students have been actively recording and explaining their thought processes using a variety of methods. This approach allows them to gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and strengthens their problem-solving skills.

Werribee Zoo Excursion

As part of our holistic learning approach, we recently embarked on an exciting excursion to Werribee Open Range Zoo. Our students had the unique opportunity to experience a Safari bus tour, where they encountered many African animals. The experience allowed them to connect their classroom knowledge with real-world examples, fostering a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation.

We are proud of the progress our students have made this far in Term 3. Their enthusiasm for learning and eagerness to explore new ideas have been truly commendable.

As always, we encourage open communication between school and home. If you have any questions, concerns, or simply want to share your child's achievements, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We value your partnership in nurturing our students' growth and development.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to a successful and rewarding Term 3 together!

NOTES:

Homework:

Homework was sent home during Parent-Teacher Interviews. They will have the option to return completed homework either on a weekly basis or at the end of the term. We understand that each family's schedule is unique, so please choose the option that best suits your child and your family's preferences. Regardless of the return schedule, we encourage you to review your child's homework with them and support their learning journey.

Reading Diaries

Just a friendly reminder that reading diaries are due every Friday. These diaries are essential for tracking your child's reading progress and providing valuable insights into their literary adventures. Kindly ensure that the reading diaries are signed and returned to school promptly so that we can celebrate your child's reading achievements together.

Nightly Readers

To foster a love for reading and continuous improvement in literacy skills, we have designated three days for readers to be changed – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It is crucial that your child brings their reader bags to school each day to facilitate the book exchange process. The more they read, the more they expand their knowledge and imagination!

If you ever have any questions or concerns about homework, reading diaries, or anything else related to your child's education, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to assist and ensure that your child has a fulfilling and enriching learning experience.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
